There are some road projects I wanted to update you on. I've had quite a few folks ask what's going on with the Old McHenry Rd. resurfacing project between Midlothian Rd. and Quentin Rd. The answer I've been given is included below..

OLD McHENRY ROAD FROM MIDLOTHIAN ROAD TO QUENTIN ROAD

Old McHenry Road:

Currently the paving on Old McHenry is on hold while the contractor waits for the CN Railroad to provide a flagman.  This is a safety requirement so that no equipment is on or near the tracks when a train is coming.  We have no control over this matter, but believe that one should be available during the week of 10/4.  We share your frustration with getting this road finished, but hope that things will be wrapped up in early October.

The project started on June 1 with good early progress until a Union Laborers/Operators strike prevented work during the majority of July.  Our resurfacing projects generally last about 3 months, however the strike and the railroad flagman are beyond the control of the contractor so that is why we are now starting our 5th month on this project.

The final asphalt surface and pavement markings were recently put down on the section without the railroad tracks from Midlothian Rd. all the way to US Rte. 12.  Please check our website at lakegov.info/roadwork for updates as they become available or contact our Resident Engineer, Joe Cucio at his field office (847) 740-3449 for more information.  Although these repairs last a few months, they should make for a smooth surface to drive on for many years to come.  Thank you for your continued patience.

Midlothian Road:

Folks have questioned the condition of Midlothian Road and when it might be repaved. Midlothian is an IDOT roadway and I do not think they have any plans to improve it in the near future.  The public does have the opportunity to provide input on IDOT's next 5-year roadway program by contacting them at their website:   http://www.dot.state.il.us/opp/planning.html

Ela Road:

You will notice Ela Road has been repaired between Rte. 22 and Rte. 12 by the entrance to Jewel, Cornerstone Bank and The Cyclery of Lake Zurich. Lake County D.O.T. responded to our request to smooth out the 'bumps' on that stretch of road and it should make for more enjoyable driving now that the work is complete.
