2010 Tollway Construction Season Begins

With approximately 80 percent of the Congestion-Relief Program - Open Roads for a Faster Future - complete, the Illinois Tollway has new, wider roads. You'll find newly completed sections on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80), Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) and the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). With the new construction season underway, the Tollway's work for 2010 shifts focus to repair and maintenance projects.

VeteransTollway

 What's Happening
Construction began in April to repair and resurface the one-mile section between 83rd Street and 75th Street, as well as the 10 miles between Ogden Avenue and Army Trail Road. As part of the project, 24 bridges in these sections will be rehabilitated. Construction will be completed by the end of 2010. This is the first major maintenance work on this 20-year-old roadway.

What it Means to Travelers
Three lanes will remain open during peak times. However, drivers headed north onto the Eisenhower (I-290/IL Route 53) will see a reduction in lanes as the Illinois Department of Transportation begins the resurfacing project on their roadway this year.

 TriState

What's Happening
Advance work will begin in June on the Edens Spur (I-94) to relocate utilities in preparation for roadwork this summer. This project will repair and resurface five miles of 50-year-old mainline pavement and rehabilitate bridges carrying the Spur over local roads and railroads. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed by the end of 2010.

What it Means to Travelers
Advance work will have little impact on traffic. When construction begins later this summer, one lane will be closed in each direction. Delays are expected.

About Habitat for Humanity Lake County ReStore

The HFHLC ReStore is an 18,000 square foot retail warehouse where we take new and slightly used building materials and resell them to the general public. At the Habitat ReStore everybody wins. The environment wins when tons of materials are reused instead filling Lake County landfills. Shoppers win when they get quality materials at great prices. Donors win when they send their unneeded materials to a worthwhile cause and get a tax deduction. Habitat for Humanity families win when they achieve the dream of owning their own home. That's a lot of winners!

The Habitat ReStore is open Tuesday thru Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-5pm.  Stop and shop and you too can be a winner

Habitat houses are sold to families in need at no profit with no-interest mortgages. Families also invest 500 hundred hours of sweat equity in building their house and other Habitat needs. Since 1989 HFHLC has built 127 homes in 4 communities in Lake County.

2010 Census

By now all Lake County residents

should have mailed in their 2010 Census forms. The return rate has been good: it is ahead of the mail-in rate in 2000. Census questionnaires have been returned by over 80% of the residences in the County, which exceeds the national and state participation rates.

For those who have not responded: The time has come for Census Takers (also called Census Enumerators) to begin knocking on doors of the addresses that have not mailed in the form. A Census Taker is a person from the community who is hired by the Census Bureau to make sure that your neighborhood gets represented as accurately as possible. It is the responsibility of a Census Taker to collect Census information from residences that have not sent back their 2010 Census form. The Census Takers will have a Census ID and a black US Census bag.

Each Census Taker has a notebook with addresses that didn't send back a filled-out Census form. If no one answers the door at a residence, the Census Taker will visit that home up to three times, each time leaving a door hanger with a phone number the resident can call to schedule a time when someone will be home and able to answer the questions on the Census form. Unsuccessful visits will be followed by up to three phone calls. The Census Taker will only ask the questions on the Census form. The Census Takers who collect the information by going door to door are sworn for life to protect the information. Any Census Taker who violates the oath commits a criminal act and can be fined up to $250,000 and be sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The Census Bureau is required by the Constitution to count everyone residing in the United States. For the Census Bureau, it does not matter how hard it is to reach someone - what matters is that everyone be contacted and counted.
