Mark your calendar with these upcoming March events taking place in our area. The first is on March 4th and is being offered to help folks "Survive the Economy" we're all dealing with these days. The second is on March 8th having to do with spotting severe weather. I've heard excellent comments about this class and I plan on attending. The third event is being held on Saturday, March 13th at LZHS. It's the Chamber of Commerce "Business and Community EXPO". I'll have a booth there (No. 32 in Tonelli Gym) and hope you'll stop by to say "Hi". I'll have a supply of Lake County roadway and bike trail maps as well as information on the County's 2010 budget that I'll be giving out. I look forward to seeing you at these events!

Severe Weather Spotter Class

Lake Zurich Area Citizen Corps will sponsor the Severe Weather Spotter Class on
Monday, March 8, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail in Lake Zurich.

During the past 10 years, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods have
killed nearly 2,300 people in the United States and injured thousands of others.
To obtain critical weather information, the National Weather Service of the U.S.
Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and
cooperating organizations, have established SKYWARN Spotter Networks. Storm
spotter reports, coupled with Doppler radar, satellite, and other data, have
enabled the National Weather Service to issue more timely and accurate warnings
for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods.

"There can be no finer reward than to know that your efforts have given a
community the precious gift of time...seconds and minutes that can save lives."
John E. Jones, Jr., Deputy Assistant Administrator for Weather Services.

Presented by the National Weather Service, the program includes Severe Weather Reporting Criteria; Thunderstorm Hazards and Safety Tips; Visual Indications of Updraft Strength and Organization; Non-Tornadic Severe Weather Events; Supercell Structure and Appearance; and Tornado Classification. The class is recommended for Fire, Police, Public Works, Parks & Recreation, volunteers, coaches, teachers, camp personnel, bus drivers, Citizen Corps, CERT, and the general public who can assist with monitoring weather conditions.

Pre-registration is necessary as class size is limited. Register via telephone
(847.540.5070) or email to
Ingrid.skidmore@volz.org   There is no charge for the class.
