Green Holiday Guide 2009 |
The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County produces a guide to encourage folks to make their holidays a little "greener" and provide them with information that can help them do so. The guide is filled with great information but it's too much to include here. Please click on the link. |
H1N1 Update |
The Lake County Health Department expects to continue to receive allocations of H1N1 vaccine in the coming weeks. Thank you for your cooperation and patience. Please know that they're working hard to ensure the vaccine is made available to residents as soon as possible. Future clinic dates, times and locations will be posted on the Lake County Health Department's H1N1 web page as soon as they are scheduled. The bilingual flu hotline will also have updates 24/7 in English and Spanish. The hotline number is 847.377.8350.
In addition to the Health Department clinics, vaccinations will be available from a large number of community healthcare providers, pharmacies and clinics. The Illinois Department of Public Health also has a list of public sites that will offer H1N1 vaccine in Lake County this season.
H1N1 Clinics in other Counties.
Cook County is allocated 84% of the vaccine the state receives (the State of Illinois gets a little over 3% of the national supply of vaccine). You may get vaccinated in other counties. Cook County is taking appointments. Click on this link for more information and a schedule: http://www.cookcountypublichealth.org

Print Prescription Drug Card
County residents can take advantage of a prescription drug discount card program. The free card that is accepted at most pharmacies offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. This is intended for people without prescription coverage or on medicines not covered by your plan. The card may also be used where accepted to fill prescriptions for pets. To print a card, click here or call the County Board Office at 847-377-2300. |

U.S. Census Board Job Opportunity |
The U.S. Census Board is currently recruiting people to work on the 2010 Census in Lake County. The conducting of a census requires the filling of a wide variety of temporary jobs. The greatest staffing need is for census takers. These enumerators work in their communities locating households, explaining the purpose of the census, conducting personal interviews with respondents who fail to return their 2010 Census questionnaire, and recording their responses on paper forms. In most cases, a valid driver's license and use of a vehicle are required to work as a census taker. The benefits available include good pay, weekly payment, paid training, and reimbursement for authorized mileage and other work-related expenses. If you are interested in this opportunity to help your community have a successful 2010 Census, you are encouraged to visit:
www.2010censusjobs.gov
and call the national census number - 866-861-2010 - to apply. |
Pets in need of food |

The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Animal Care and Control program continues to accept donations for the Pooch Pantry, a food pantry for dogs and cats.
As many as 40 families visit the pantry each week to seek assistance in meeting the nutritional and care needs of their dogs and cats.
