Below is the latest information I have on the H1N1 vaccine situation. I've been trying hard to get a clinic in our area and will continue to do so. To view my efforts you can click on the link I've included here. Once you arrive at the website click on the blue "Video" tab on the November 10th Board Meeting line. Once the TV screen appears, move the round dot below the TV screen to the right (scroll) to the 2:42 minute location. You'll be able to hear my questions/comments and the response given by Irene Pierce, Executive Director of the Lake County Health Department. The clip lasts until about the 2:47 minute mark. Once you hear Irene's answers I hope you'll have a better understanding of where we stand at this point.
I've had many folks request information on what's going on at the intersection of Route 22 and Route 83. Traffic has been tied up there for days now. I can tell you it's an I.D.O.T. project (not Lake County) and I believe it has to do with intersection reconstruction, culvert replacement and traffic signal modernization. I'll try and get more information from I.D.O.T. and pass it along shortly.
Please take a moment to read the information provided below. I hope you'll find it of interest and pass it along to others who may benefit from it.
Your suggestions concerning the content of this News Letter are appreciated and welcome. I also encourage you to get your neighbors and friends to join my mailing list. This is a great way to keep everyone informed and provide you with an avenue to easily communicate with me.
As always, I look forward to meeting you and please feel free to contact me with your concerns or comments. You can reach me by phone, 847-438-2961 or email:

Health Department Flu Update: 11/11/09 |
The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center has scheduled an appointment-only H1N1 vaccination clinic on Friday, November 13, at the Highland Park Recreation Center, 1207 Park Avenue West in Highland Park. The clinic will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The vaccinations are free of charge.
To make an appointment, visit:
https://secure.flubusters.com/clinic.aspx?oid26000000ANksP
and select "H1N1" clinic. Or call: 1-866-358-2878 (and press 4) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Appointments are on a first come, first served basis. No walk-ins will be accommodated without an appointment. To gain entry to the clinic, participants must show the printed confirmation or the identification code they will receive when registering for an appointment.
Approximately 2,500 doses of the H1N1 vaccine will be distributed at this clinic, including 2,000 doses for people of 4 years of age and above, and 500 doses for children between 6 and 35 months of age. However, vaccine for children between 36 and 47 months will not be available at this clinic. This clinic is specifically for people in high priority target groups, including:
Individuals 6 months to 24 years of age
Caretakers and household contacts of children under 6 months of age
Pregnant women
Healthcare workers and emergency services personnel
People 25 to 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions, such as asthma or diabetes, which put them at high risk for flu-related complications
H1N1 vaccinations have been produced in several forms such as nasal spray and shots. Health Department vaccination clinic staff will work with residents to determine the best form of vaccine for each individual, based on health needs and vaccine availability. In addition to this clinic, LCHD is distributing limited amounts of vaccine to practitioners, especially pediatricians and obstetricians, throughout the Lake County region. Our goal is to provide the vaccine to people at highest risk first, and then provide it to the general public. We recognize that the delay in the manufacturing of the vaccine has been frustrating for many people. We will continue to inform the community of distribution sites as more vaccine becomes available. More than 430 local healthcare providers and facilities, such as schools, businesses, and retail pharmacies, have registered to receive the vaccine. For a list of Lake County public sites that will provide the vaccine in the near future, visit:
As future Health Department vaccination clinics and plans are available, information will be shared publicly and will be available through the Health Department's Flu Hotline, 847.377.8350 and web page,

County Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2010 Budget |
The Lake County Board adopted a $498 million budget for 2010, which is approximately $6 million less than this year's budget. The Board carefully examined expenditures to assure that this year's budget is conservative enough to meet the nation's and county's current economic conditions. While at the same time, the County will continue to offer quality public services and maintain public safety.
Please go to the Lake County website for more details on the budget and to view a "State of the County Address" from County Board Chairman Suzi Schmidt.
