Lake County News
from Craig Taylor

Craig Taylor Representative District 19

Craig Taylor
It's been an action packed week and a half since I was sworn in as your District 19 Representative to the Lake County Board. I want to thank all those who passed along their congratulations and best wishes! Your kind words and support are appreciated. I'd also like to mention what a wonderful group of individuals I've met at the County Building in Waukegan and the Department of Transportation and Lake County Forest Preserve Offices both located in Libertyville. Everyone who lives and works in Lake County can be proud of these folks and the fine job they do for us.

Please take a moment to look over the items of information I've included below. Of particular note is the upcoming Lake County Fair which runs from July 28th through August 2nd. It's being held at the new Fair Grounds which are very easy to get to from anywhere in District 19. Just head straight up Midlothian Road and you'll drive right into it (about a 20 minute ride from Lake Zurich).

Also of importance is the information on the Senior Citizens Property Tax Assessment Freeze, who qualifies and how to apply for it. The information may not apply to you but if you know someone 65 or older you may want to pass this along to them.

Don't forget the Lake Zurich Lion's Club Alpine Festival this weekend. It starts today, July 24th and runs through Sunday the 26th. The Alpine Parade kicks off Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and I hope to see you there! For more on Alpine Fest see lzlions.org on the web.

As always, I look forward to meeting you and please feel free to contact me with your concerns or comments. You can reach me by phone, 847-438-2961 or email: ctaylor@lakecountyil.gov

I want to keep you informed of Lake County News and would very much appreciate it if you know anyone not receiving this newsletter, that you forward it to them and suggest they join my email list.

Thanks and have a safe and fun filled summer!
Craig Taylor

Lake County Health Department Provides Beach Advisory Information On-line

Lake County beachgoers can now access daily information on Lake Michigan beach advisories and swim bans through the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Web site. Just visit www.lakecountyil.gov/health and click on the 'Swim Ban Information from LCHD' link on the right.

For information on Private and Public beaches in Illinois click the link this link, it's called: 'Swim Ban Information from Illinois Department of Public Health'.

Real-time, near shore beach conditions, with information on air and water temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation and wave height is now available at SwimCast.

"Conditions on the lake can change quickly. This Web page provides helpful information so residents can decide whether or not it's a good day for their trip to a Lake Michigan beach," said the Health Department's Executive Director Irene Pierce.Beach

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Health Department's Lakes Management Unit samples Lake Michigan beaches to test for E. coli bacteria, which are found in the intestines of almost all warm-blooded animals.  While not all strains of E. coli are the same, certain strains can make humans sick if ingested in high enough concentrations.

If water samples come back high for E. coli (235 E. coli/100 ml), the beach's manager is notified and a sign is posted indicating the beach closure. In addition, because heavy rain tends to lead to elevated bacteria levels in the water, the Health Department advises that persons avoid swimming for 48 hours after a large rain event.

In addition to monitoring swimming beaches along Lake Michigan in Lake County, the Health Department's Lakes Management Unit also works to monitor lakes and streams throughout the county. For more information on beach monitoring, please call the Lakes Management Unit at (847) 377-8030.

HouseLake County senior citizens 65 years old or older whose income does not exceed $55,000 may qualify for a property assessment freeze, if the property is their primary residence.
