SECUELA DATES FOR 2011

The Remaining 2011 Secuela dates are:
November 5 The next Secuela will be on November 5 at 6:00 at Piedmont Church. We will be celebrating the Pescadores from the two previous weekends, but hope to have lots of our community there as well. You know the saying from the Girl Scouts "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other, gold! " That is the way it is in the Tres Dias community. Please come out for great fellowship , food, worship, and mediation. All are asked to bring a covered dish to feed 10-12. December 17 The Christmas Secuela will be here before we know it. It will be on Dec. 17 at Piedmont Church. The fourth day teams are making a list of Hosts and Hostesses for the tables at the Christmas Secuela. To host, you bring decorations for your table, including everything to "set" the table ( dishes, flatware, glasses, etc.). The tables seat eight. If you would be willing to do this, or would like more info, please contact Joan Kiger at joan4given@yahoo.com. asap. This makes our annual Christmas Secuela very special. We need you! Please be a blessing to the community by serving in this way!
All secuelas are at Piedmont Baptist Church unless otherwise noted

SPONSORSHIP DRIVE ENDS SEPT. 30

The Tres Dias of North Georgia Secretariat Ends
September 30
NEW applications postmarked before October 1, will receive a $25 discount on the weekend fee. The discount will be applied at the Candidate's send-off.
As always, please prayerfully consider those in your life that you would like to sponsor for a Tres Dias weekend. Remember that sponsoring someone for Tres Dias does not mean that you must pay their weekend fee. Determine if financial help is needed. IF you can help, please do. Be sure to share with your candidate that even though you may have paid or helped to pay their weekend fee, it is not a requirement for them to pay the weekend fee for anyone they sponsor. The weekend fee can be paid by either candidate or sponsor.
Do not forget to take advantage of the Sponsorship Drive!!
For questions or more information, contact preweekend@ngtd.org.

KAIROS WEEKENDS

NGTD Brothers,
I would like to introduce you to a 3 day walk, very similar to Tres Dias.
Kairos is an Ecumenical Christian Ministry, designed to be presented in medium and maximum Security prisons. Today, there are a total of 320 prisons around the world which have active Kairos communities. Like Tres Dias, Kairos is a three day short course in the Christian Life that is presented twice a year. The purpose of Kairos is to build a Christian community within the darkness of the prison, among the inmates.
There are 42 resident inmates that are selected to attend the Kairos weekend. The Kairos team that presents the short course is made up of about 40 volunteers. The team enters the prison as servants of Christ -- not preaching, not judging, not giving advice -- but reflecting the love of Christ. Someone has said that Kairos is a ministry to the lost and forgotten. It truly is a mission field in a foreign land - a land of lost souls.
In addition to the 3 day walk we support our incarcerated Kairos brothers by returning to the prison for monthly fellowship reunions.
We are serving at Hays State Prison Annex in Trion, Ga. Our next walk will be in March of 2012, but just as it is with Tres Dias it takes many months of preparation and team building in order to host a walk.
If you have an interest and want to know more about how you might serve this important ministry -- please contact Norman Kauffmann at normansk@bellsouth.net or call 770-508-8347

SECRETARIAT POSTIONS OPEN

Your Help Needed to Fill Open Secretariat Positions
The Tres Dias Community needs you!!! There are several Secretariat positions available beginning in January 2012. This is one way to give back to the Tres Dias Community and have a lasting effect on this great arm of God's army. There are many positives, including:
- Voting for upcoming Rectors, policy changes, and other leadership decisions,
- Being a voice for the Community and making an impact with your ideas,
- Knowing that your service helps to make the Weekend experience better for Candidates, Sponsors and Team Members, and
- Aid in the development of new Tres Dias Communities.
It does not require a lot of your time, for instance;
- We meet once a month, ten months of the year.
- You typically support only 2 sets of Weekends a year, since we have two individuals/couples for each Service Area.
- You would respond to occasional emails.
The open positions are:
- Weekend Couple - Omega: Opens and/or closes the camp each weekend. Work closely with each of the Team Section Heads.
- Pre-Weekend Couple - Omega: Receives and processes applications for TD attendance. Contact sponsors when their candidate can attend a weekend. Conducts and coordinates activities for/at Send-offs.
- Food Management Couple - Omega: Assists the Head Kitchen with menu selection, training and purchasing all food for the weekends.
The term of service is 3 years. Training is conducted for each position and there is a lot of support available.
Please prayerfully consider serving in one of these positions or speaking with someone you think would be great in one of these positions. If you are interested in a more formal job description, and/or would like to discuss the commitment required in Secretariat service, contact George Flury, Chairman - Elect, at chairman@tdng.org.

TRES DIAS GUIDE FOR TEAM MEMBERS

The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.
SPECIFIC TEAM ASSIGNMENTS
MUSIC DIRECTOR
The music director (sometimes called music cha, music chief, or worship cha) is responsible for coordinating the musical events of the team meetings and the Weekend. These events vary from community to community, but frequently include song practice, the opening ceremony, liturgies, the agape festival (where celebrated) and planned and unplanned musical interludes which might be needed during the Weekend. Tres Dias has a Musical Director's Guide (available from the Services Committee) to assist the music director in these tasks. The music director must coordinate his/her choice of songs with the rector and the spiritual directors, to make sure the songs are appropriate to the place in the Weekend and the activity being conducted.
While not necessarily the best situation, in some communities, due to the constraint on the number of team members they are able to use, and experienced music director may also be asked to serve as a table leader or as a rollista. These extra responsibilities can present an added burden to the music director. Such assignments, though, demanding, provide further opportunities to witness and to be a Christian leader.
In the next issue, we will present the role of the Rollista..

SECRETARIAT REMINDERS
|
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs"
Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend my attend Tres Dias functions.
We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.
- - -
Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God & what He has in store for them.
- - -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat. We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat. If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly. For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.
- - -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only. This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.
If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the message board referenced earlier in this newsletter.
- - -
Over the years a tradition has evolved where the sponsor paid the fee for their candidate's weekend; however, it is not a requirement to sponsorship. Please do not avoid sponsoring just because you can't pay their fee or only sponsor those you can pay for in your budget. Many sponsors will mention the $125.00 weekend fee up front and ask if that would that be a problem?
Think of it this way, if you invite friends to go see the Falcon's play, that does not obligate you to pay for their tickets or if you invite someone to go to a concert you do not feel obligated to pick up the tab. Remember the only way your friends can experience Tres Dias is for you to sponsor them.
- - - Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees.
