FROM OUR CHAIRMAN'S HEART
| |
Rooted Hope Romans 8:24-25; 28-31 Recent events concerning the question of justice and the dilemma of flawed leadership at both the local and national level can lead one directly to cynicism and skepticism. Maybe I am the only one who struggles with these feelings? Yet as Christians our world view is not established by headlines, but upon Our Father's character who is sovereign and has a divine plan of redemption working even through the worst of current events. Reading Stuart McAllister, he said "In the first decade of the twenty-first century we have witnessed 9/11, bombings in Spain, Bali, and London. We have seen the debacles of Enron, WorldCom, and the fiascoes of Bear Stearns. Optimism has met its match. Perhaps for some, they are seeing the collapse of hopes and the fulfillment of fears." And yet most of us can also remember the astonished newscasters as Germans embraced each other on top of the despised symbol of separation. Europe and the world seethed with the euphoria of change. The brave new world was being born, and optimism was the mood of the day. The truth is as disciples we cannot afford to live our lives seeking happiness or wishing we lived in "the land of if only". Happiness is dependent of happenings and they are fickle and most of the time out of our control. Our privilege is we get to live life rooted in hope, hope in God who is the author and sustainer of life and His divine intentions will not be thwarted by human success or failures. Writing to the Romans, the apostle Paul reminded them that hope is real because it is anchored in one who is able to carry it, sustain it, and fulfill it (Romans 8:24-25; 28-31). History is moving to an end, and Jesus holds it's outcome in His hands. Thus, the difference between optimism (short term and easily overcome) and hope (eternal and anchored) is where they are rooted. One leans on human effort; the other rests in God and God's promises. In our Fourth Day let us live rooted in hope!
DeColores, Bill

SPONSORSHIP DRIVE EXTENDED
| |
The Tres Dias of North Georgia Secretariat is pleased to announce a 3 month extension to our Sponsorship Drive!
Your response to the Sponsorship Drive created an increase in the number of Tres Dias applications we received. As a response to this increase, NEW applications postmarked between July 1 - September 30, 2011 will receive a $25 discount on the weekend fee. The discount will be applied at the Candidate's send-off.
As always, please prayerfully consider those in your life that you would like to sponsor for a Tres Dias weekend. Remember that sponsoring someone for Tres Dias does not mean that you must pay their weekend fee. Determine if financial help is needed. IF you can help, please do. Be sure to share with your candidate that even though you may have paid or helped to pay their weekend fee, it is not a requirement for them to pay the weekend fee for anyone they sponsor. The weekend fee can be paid by either candidate or sponsor.
Do not forget to take advantage of the Sponsorship Drive!!
For questions or more information, contact preweekend@ngtd.org.

SECRETARIAT POSTIONS OPEN
| |
Please Pray and Act as God Leads
In the past few months, God has placed the call to serve on a number of couples and individuals who have taken up the mantle of servant leadership on the Tres Dias of North Georgia Secretariat. As Administrative Assistant to our Chairman, I have been charged with leadership development, so I am most grateful to those who have taken these positions.
Now, we have several more positions to fill. The term of service is 3 years for each position and officially begins in January 2012. Last year, the Secretariat approved a method for smoother transitions that involves voting for replacements at the two and a half year point of incumbents to allow for training of the incoming couple or individual. To that end, we will be looking for nominees for the following positions prior to the June Secretariat Meeting on Monday, June 20th:
Chairman (Must have served as a Rector in the TDNG Community, have previously served on the Secretariat, and must demonstrate committee leadership capabilities and organizational skills)
Women's Leader - Omega (Must have served as a Rector in the TDNG Community)
Men's Leader - Alpha (Must have served as a Rector in the TDNG Community)
Food Management Couple - Omega
Pre-Weekend Couple - Omega
Weekend - Omega
If you would like to nominate anyone (self-nomination is allowed) for Secretariat service, please contact Bill Furr (chairman@ngtd.org) or me (vicechair@ngtd.org).
In Christ's Lavish Love,
George Flury
Administrative Assistant/Vice Chair

NEWS FROM THE CAMP OF COLORS
| |
Dear Camp of Colors family: During the past several months there has been a growing concern that there were contaminants (i.e. mold) in the Camp of Colors (COC) facility that were causing weekend participants to become sick. The COC board has been addressing this concern at their last few meetings. In mid-June, Paul Kreager, COC Board Chairman asked Rollie Bevers, previous Chairman to search for and hire a health professional to evaluate the facility to determine if there was a problem. During the last week of June, Rollie and Dave Vinke, COC maintenance contractor, met with two different health professionals at the camp. Environmental samples were taken and evaluated. Praise the Lord, the results came back indicating that the COC facility does not have a mold problem. Even though these tests came back with favorable results, the COC board is still taking steps to reduce moisture levels in the facility that could potentially cause problems. Weekend events are comprised of many people coming from a variety of environments into a relatively closed facility and in close contact. These are conditions that are conducive to the spread of germs and illnesses. The policies and procedures in place at the camp are such that these health risks are mitigated as much as possible. The COC board prayerfully requests that each community continue to do as much as possible to assist in keeping the camp as sanitary and clean as possible so that lives can continue to be changed in a way that brings glory to our Heavenly Father. The full report will be made available to the governing body of each community in the near future. Respectively, Camp of Colors Board of Directors

SPONSORSHIP

Sponsorship and the Responsibilities of a Sponsor
This is the tenth article in a series about the joys and responsibilities of being a sponsor. Sponsoring candidates is only one of the many joys we have as members of the TD community. However, sponsorship brings with it several serious responsibilities to the candidates, to the community, and ultimately, to God. It has been said that the most important part of Tres Dias is sponsorship. Responsibilities of a Sponsor Following is a list of items and guidelines that sponsors should consider before entering into sponsorship:
g. Provide transportation to the Sendoff location and from the Camp location for your candidate(s). They must be at the sendoff location promptly. The time will be confirmed prior to each weekend.
h. Advise the candidate and his/her family members that the candidate will be home late Sunday. You should attend the closing, pick up your candidate's personal belongings, and transport them home from the closing. Please note that dinner is not served to candidates on Sunday, so you may want to make plans to eat somewhere after leaving the camp.
i. The sponsor should provide Palanca of some type for their candidate.
j. The sponsor should also write a personal letter to their candidate.
k. Sponsors will be asked to pray for one hour during their candidate(s) weekend (72 Hour Prayer Wheel).
l. Sponsors should not ask for exceptions that violate the Essentials of Tres Dias. (to be continued in the next Pescadore Pages)

TRES DIAS GUIDE FOR TEAM MEMBERS
| |
The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.
SPECIFIC TEAM ASSIGNMENTS
TABLE LEADERS
(continued from previous issue)
Once the Weekend begins, the task of the table leader is to unite those at the table to which they have been assigned. Table leaders need to be especially available to the candidates assigned to their tables. The candidates at the table, the Weekend's little Reunion Group, are the object of the table leader's special attention and affection.
During the Weekend, the most important interaction occurs at the tables. This is the first time many of the candidates will have had experience in a small reunion group. In this group, they often learn to share openly and honestly about their lives. It is also where they frequently laugh, cry, and pray together and develop a trust relationship which often lasts long after the Weekend has ended..
In the next issue, we will present the role of the Music Director. |
SECRETARIAT REMINDERS
|
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs"
Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend my attend Tres Dias functions.
We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.
- - -
Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God & what He has in store for them.
- - -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat. We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat. If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly. For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.
- - -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only. This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.
If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the message board referenced earlier in this newsletter.
- - -
Over the years a tradition has evolved where the sponsor paid the fee for their candidate's weekend; however, it is not a requirement to sponsorship. Please do not avoid sponsoring just because you can't pay their fee or only sponsor those you can pay for in your budget. Many sponsors will mention the $125.00 weekend fee up front and ask if that would that be a problem?
Think of it this way, if you invite friends to go see the Falcon's play, that does not obligate you to pay for their tickets or if you invite someone to go to a concert you do not feel obligated to pick up the tab. Remember the only way your friends can experience Tres Dias is for you to sponsor them.
- - - Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees.
