News From Pescadores in Japan

  .
Good morning to everyone,

We are back in our apartment in OOGAWARA.  We have water and power again and are doing fine.  We still have aftershocks every night. We have been sleeping in our street cloths in fear of the need to move quickly. Food and gasoline are limited, and there are long lines when available.  Many areas still do not have running water.  Please pray for supernatural intervention to the nuclear power plant.  Also when the existing food and gasoline are gone, the real struggle starts.  Most companies are closed for business and therefore, not productive.  Japan needs help now!

We praise the Lord for our protection, but it doesn't feel right to just sit and do nothing. We are contacting our local churches to see how we can help.

Your prayers are needed and cherished.

Grace and Peace to you from Japan,

Shigeko (NGTD114) & Woody (NGTD)

PS:  We will not be evacuating!

From our Chairman's Heart

Where In The Fourth Day Are We Anyway?

Having just returned from a trip to the mountains of NE Tennessee, my senses were teased by the evidence of Spring. Daffodils blooming, the fragrance of Star Magnolia filling the air and the apparent drab grays and browns of winter yielding to the buds of new life. This is one reason I am grateful for the Lenten season. Life springs forth all around us with the shocking call that we must prepare ourselves for what is coming, reflect on the place of hope via the road of suffering, and face the forces and temptations that come at us along the way. Lent calls us to the wakeful awareness that we are human, we are dust, and we are falling short, but that there is a story reaching beyond our lifetimes, beyond our deaths, and our shortcomings, speaking new life where death stings and tears flow.

Jesus suddenly appeared in human history after 400 long years of silence. God had not spoken since the prophet Malachi. Yet in the middle of this cold dark winter Our Father had prepared a season of deliverance. A spring of redemption from the stain of sin and the ravages of a frustrated creation. Hope is the message of Easter.  New life for Old. The great exchange at Calvary has been made: all that I was He became and all that He is, I am!

So in our Fourth Day journey let us again "Acknowledge the Lord. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear, he will come to us like the spring rains that water the earth." [Hosea 6:3] As we see evidence of Spring we also see evidence of His preparation to return to the earth and once again establish His divine intentions as they were at creation. It is this magnificent hope we share and long to see become our reality.

Have a truly blessed Easter, DeColores,

Bill

Proposed NGTD By-Law Change

The following is a proposed change to the Tres Dias of North Georgia By-Laws:

Remove sub-section item 6.15.2 from the Constitution and By-laws of TDNG, and renumber the remaining sub-section items (6.15.3 through 6.15.7 will become 6.15.2 through 6.15.6) in that sub-section.

The current item reads:

6.15.2 Personal Palanca. Provide for a means of collecting and delivering personal Palanca to the candidates and team for each Weekend.

This is an unnecessary statement, since the responsibility of sponsors and other contributors of Palanca of any type is to take it to Send Off or to Serenade.  May we also take this opportunity to remind new Pescadores that individual Palanca is only allowed for team members.  Candidate Palanca must be in sufficient quantities for all Candidates.  This does not apply to a gift for a Candidate if it will go in the Sunday Bag.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact George Flury at vicechair@ngtd.org

Palanca Drop-Off At Send-Off

Palanca Drop-Off At Send-Off

On Thursday evening at Send-Off, the ideal time to drop Palanca off is before the bus leaves and preferably prior to the start of Send-Off.  There will be Palanca Chas there to collect it.  After Send-Off, there is usually no one at the church to collect Palanca since the Palanca Chas usually race to the Camp of Colors as or just after the bus leaves.  There will not be a sign stating PALANCA HERE but the Chas are usually not hard to identify.  Just look for the bags of goodies!

We are asking one Palanca Cha to collect Palanca until the candidates are on the bus and the Community sings to them.  Once the bus leaves, the last Palanca Cha will leave for the campground.  There will be no one else to collect Palanca on Thursday evening.

Also, there is no one designated to do a Palanca run from the Atlanta area to the Camp of Colors after Send-Off.  After Thursday evening,  please arrange to take it to the Camp or bring it to Serenade.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship and the Responsibilities of a Sponsor

This is the eighth article in a series about the joys and responsibilities of being a sponsor.

Sponsoring candidates is only one of the many joys we have as members of the TD community.  However, sponsorship brings with it several serious responsibilities to the candidates, to the community, and ultimately, to God.

It has been said that the most important part of Tres Dias is sponsorship.

Responsibilities of a Sponsor

Following is a list of items and guidelines that sponsors should consider before entering into sponsorship:

a.  KNOW YOUR CANDIDATE!!  Always ensure that your candidate has a sincere desire for a closer relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

b.  Explain the purpose of Tres Dias to your candidates that there are no anxieties about the weekend.  You can explain enough about the weekend to allow a prospective candidate to desire such an experience.  However, please omit mentioning Palanca, Serenade, and letters.

c.  Sponsors should make arrangements to meet the candidate's responsibilities with his/her family such as driving children to sports events, mowing the lawn, etc.

d.  Your candidate should understand that they are expected to attend the entire weekend and that if they have obligations which need to be carried out during the Weekend, that they should make arrangements ahead of time to have someone else perform those duties.  They will not be permitted to engage in work-related activity on the weekend.

Revised NGTD Application

application

Minor revisions have been made to the NGTD Sponsorship Application.  The new version is available at

Message Board

message board

Don't forget to use the message board,http://ngtd.activeboard.com for prayer requests, praise reports and other community member announcements.  There are areas for prayer requests, ministry events, needs & seeds, and any other items you may have that would be of interest to the community.

Tres Dias Essentials

There are some components of the weekend that are "essential", some are "optional", some are "accidental", and some are "divinely orchestrated".  The essentials are proscribed by Tres Dias International.  Here are more (continued from previous newsletters):

4.0  The Essentials of the Local Secretariat Organization.

The function of the local secretariat is to conduct an effective program in accordance with the TRES DIAS method.

That each local secretariat have a document, approved by its membership, describing its structure and operating procedures.

That the members of a local secretariat have completed a TRES DIAS weekend or a similar experience recognized by TRES DIAS.

All Pescadores of the TRES DIAS community whom the local secretariat claims to represent must be eligible to serve as voting members and officers of the Secretariat.

That the local secretariat have a plan for the periodic election of new members.

The local secretariat must be the sole sponsor of a TRES DIAS weekend held in its community.

Each local secretariat must sponsor at least two TRES DIAS weekends a year.  For the purpose of chartering, this requirement may be waived by TRES DIAS.

Tres Dias Guide For Team Members

The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.

SPECIFIC TEAM ASSIGNMENTS

AUXILIARIES (ANGELS, CHAS)

The auxiliaries are the team members whose task is to care for the physical needs of the team and candidates, both during the team meetings and on the Weekend.

The chief auxiliary (angel, cha) monitors the Detailed Schedule for the Weekend activities (outside the rollo room), prepares for upcoming events and keeps in communication with the rector (between rollos).  Working for and with the rector , the chief auxiliary reviews the schedule for all the events of the Weekend and is concerned for the timing and physical preparations for each event. (Note: In the various communities, the distribution of work assignments may vary, depending upon the total number of team members used and the size of the auxiliary team.  The section is written in a generic way and is not intended to be precise in every detail for all communities.  The local community should prepare its own job descriptions for each position).

(NOTE: In the North Georgia community, the Head Cha assists the Rector in the administrative portions of the pre-weekend process and the Assistant Head Cha monitors and coordinates the schedule during the Weekend.   During the Weekend phase, the Head Cha continues to work closely with the Rector and Assistant Head Cha to monitor and coordinate all activites of the Weekend.)
To assure that all the work is accomplished, several auxiliaries work under the direction of the chief auxiliary.  Their assignments are usually in such areas as the kitchen, dining room, rollo room, dormitories, chapel, etc.  In some communities, an auxiliary may be assighned to receive and record team and candidate donations for the Weekend; in other communities, the assistant rector may be assigned this role.

(NOTE: In the North Georgia community, the Assistant Head Cha is responsible for collecting team monies, and the Pre-weekend couple collect candidate fees.)

The auxiliaries can become pre-occupied with the details of the Weekend, but their role is vital.  Some candidates may seek them out for counsel and direction, particularly since the auxiliaries are recognized by the candidates as team members from the beginning of the Weekend.  While it is evey team member's role to deliver Christ's message, keep in mind that the spiritual counsel and direction is the responsinility of the spiritual directors; therefore, candidates should be referred to a spiritual director for any spiritual matter.

Each local community should have prepared some type of a guide (Auxiliary Guide, Weekend Guide, or whatever it might be called) unique to the facility it uses; this is to assist the auxiliaries in their work.  Most communities have detailed job descriptions to train and equip each member for the specific functions he/she is to perform on the Weekend.

Secretariat Reminders

reminder
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs"
Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend my attend Tres Dias functions.

We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.

-   -   -

Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God & what He has in store for them.

  -   -   -

There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat.  We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat.  If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly.  For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.

-   -   -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only.  This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.

If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the message board referenced earlier in this newsletter.

-   -   -

Over the years a tradition has evolved where the sponsor paid the fee for their candidate's weekend; however, it is not a requirement to sponsorship.  Please do not avoid sponsoring just because you can't pay their fee or only sponsor those you can pay for in your budget.  Many sponsors will mention the $125.00 weekend fee up front and ask if that would that be a problem?

Think of it this way, if you invite friends to go see the Falcon's play, that does not obligate you to pay for their tickets or if you invite someone to go to a concert you do not feel obligated to pick up the tab. Remember the only way your friends can experience Tres Dias is for you to sponsor them.

-   -   -

Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees.
