From our Chairman's Heart

The "Fairness" Question
Matthew 20:9-12

You have no doubt witnessed how life often deals out circumstances that are just not fair. One family loses a loved one while another is healed and restored. One's business prospers and another has to close their doors.

A tornado destroys several houses in a neighborhood and yet another one is left unscathed. Even worse, sometimes we personally find ourselves "on the short end of the stick". This can cause us to wonder is God fair? Why are we not the ones who enjoy His actual grace and protection?

Yet we know our Father's character and by faith we know that there is a much larger context with which our current circumstances in this fallen world are interpreted.

Jesus proclaims the coming of a kingdom that turns this world as we know it on its head and requires a complete reframing of perspective.  God's grace is not meant to be a source of disappointment nor is God's kingdom meant to be a hierarchy of skill and favoritism.  On the contrary, God reminds us that greatness comes in ways that shock and disorient our many rules and systems.  For God's grace bestowed at any hour is generous and confrontational, the power of the Cross is perplexing and undeserved; the love of the Father is always boldly and lavishly given.  Receiving the generosity of the master, we are united with the Son in whom God is well-pleased.  In His economy, we are made heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ himself.  And there is no greater favoritism possible.

DeColores,
Bill

MONTEGO BAY TRES DIAS #5

My dedicated Brothers and Sisters of North Georgia Tres Dias,

The Time and Opportunity have finally come, for all who desire, to experience the awesome beauty that the Lord has created at an island just a short distance to the south of us. The beautiful West Indies Isle of Jamaica. The gentle waves of bluegreen irridescence of the Caribbean Sea rolling ashore on endless white-sand beaches as the cool offshore breezes carress the palm tree groves lending a serene, peaceful spirit to all who go there. But to add Blessing upon Blessing, the island of Jamaica is inhabited by a group of people that are hungry for the Love of the same Jesus Christ that we have obtained by our faith in Him. The time to show this island the same Jesus with skin on that we have been shown by example of Christ is a rare and unique opportunity for all of us. I know by the experience of being blessed to serve in Jamaica on Montego Bay #1, 2, 3, and #4, that this weekend called Montego Bay Tres Dias #5 (Grace) will be an awesome, more powerful move of the Holy Spirit than we have seen to date. How do I know? Because it just keeps getting better, doesn't it? The love and mercy of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, and the servitude of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has moved mountains in Jamaica, and men and women and children of Jamaica have drawn closer to the Father because of the hearts of those who go there to serve Him and take His love to them. Men and women servants with humble hearts and a desire to share the love of Christ are needed on both teams.

Men's Montego Bay Tres Dias Weekend #5 commences October 28th through October 31.

Women's Montego Bay Tres Dias Weekend #5 is November 4th through November 7th.

The weekend fee is $270.00 including evacuation insurance.

The team fee is $15.00. And the airfare roundtrip is approx. $350.00 to $420.00.

We will arrive by Wednesday prior and leave on Monday or later.

The days between the Men's and Women's weekends are an excellent time to renew relationships, explore the wonders of the Lord in this island paradise, and reflect on the miracles He has wrought on that island and in your lives. If you cannot attend the weekend with us, team and candidates in the US and Jamaica would gratefully accept donations toward team fees and candidate fees. To sponsor team or candidates in Jamaica the team fee is $60.00 and the candidate fee is $30.00. All donations, large and small are greatly appreciated, and may be sent to Jamaica Tres Dias, c/o Michael Hall, Treasurer to 4282 Ga. Hwy. 105, Baldwin, Ga. 30511. All donations are tax deductible. Use a sticky note or write in pencil in the memo portion of your check if for anyone in particular. Otherwise just write team or candidate, Jamaica or U.S.A.

Razzie Stewart and I look forward to seeing you, God willing, on Saturday, September 18th, at 9:00 AM to share with you the vision the Lord has given us for Montego Bay Tres Dias #5 (Grace). May the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ follow you and yours for all the days of your lives, and may He visit you in your dreams and give you comfort and peace.

Blessings and DeColores,

Your Brother and Sister in Christ,
Michael Hall Sr. and Razzie Stewart

Palanca Information
As we gain new Pescadores, and as the number of candidates and team members change, we get questions about providing palanca for a weekend.

Here is the section of the TDNG Policies & Practices that speaks to that subject.

4.5 CANDIDATE PALANCA
There should be no "individual" palanca on any candidate's bed. There must be enough palanca for all candidates. Also, there should be no special consideration given to a candidate because he/she happens to be a friend or relative of a team member. All candidates are to be treated with an equal amount of love and attention! If there is a desire to provide palanca for the entire team and candidates; plan on 126 pieces (42 Candidates and 84 Team not including Set-Up). If possible, include extras, in case something is broken or lost.

This, of course, deals with the items that we  categorize as Table, Kitchen or Bed Palanca.  To be more specific here are some additional comments.  Currently a TDNG Team has 84 members, not including its Set-up/Take-down crew.  The optimum number of Candidates on a Weekend is 36, but keep in mind that the Candidate dorm rooms would allow us to have 42 Candidates and still have a Dorm Cha in each dorm.  So, unless you prepare your Palanca after Send Off, when we know exactly how many Candidates actually make the Weekend, you may want to count on 42 items for Candidate Bed Palanca.

Table Palanca, delivered in the Rollo Room should be adequate to supply 6 tables with 8 or 9 people per table

Kitchen Palanca, presented in the Dining Hall, should be adequate for all Candidates and Team, as stated in the P&P Section 4.5 above.

Once again the only individual Palanca for Candidates that can be given prior to Closing, is a sponsor's gift that is of the appropriate size and nature to go in the Candidate's Sunday bag.

Banner Size and Construction

We greatly appreciate the "Labor of Love" that goes into producing these visual displays of the messages God has given for His teams and candidates.  We realize that much prayer and many hours go into these creations, and we want to care for them with the same love that went into them.  To that end, it is important that we relay some information, clarify guidelines and ask for your help.

As beautiful as they are when hanging against a wall, some of the existing banners are very difficult to transport and store because they are much larger than our standard and/or they have hard, thick and/or very fragile attachments.  Please keep in mind, when making a banner, it has to be transported (that usually means rolled or folded and put in the back of the golf cart), then it has to be stored, hanging in between other banners.

So, please help us by remembering the following if you decide to create a banner for any Weekend:

-Banner size should not exceed 3' x 5' .
-Pole should not extend more than 6 inches from the banner material, and that includes finials.
-Hanger rope/cord should not be more than ¼" in diameter.
-Materials should be sturdy if possible.
-Letters/Graphics that are not painted on or printed, should be sewn or attached with high quality moisture resistant adhesive.

Blessings to all of you!

In Christ's Lavish Love,
Michael and Cheryl Edwards

Sponsorship

Sponsorship and the Responsibilities of a Sponsor

This is the sixth article in a series about the joys and responsibilities of being a sponsor.

Sponsoring candidates is only one of the many joys we have as members of the TD community.  However, sponsorship brings with it several serious responsibilities to the candidates, to the community, and ultimately, to God.

It has been said that the most important part of Tres Dias is sponsorship.

Carefully Consider Potential Candidates

Tres Dias is right for many people but not for everyone.  As you consider who to sponsor, prayerfully evaluate each potential candidate's readiness.  Some considerations should be:

-  Non-Christians and persons with no relationship with Christ or His church should not be sponsored.
-  Tres Dias is not for persons with severe emotional problems or undergoing a crisis.  They may not be ready for the intense personal introspection cultivated through the TD method and the team is not equipped to do psychological counseling.
-  A decision to attend a Tres Dias Weekend should be made willingly, not through coercion.  Continue to offer Tres Dias sponsorship as appropriate, however, a potential sponsor should not feel like a failure if a prospect says "no".  The timing might be wrong.  We believe God will cause the right people to respond to the invitation and get them on the Weekend in His timing.
-  The Weekend is a place for those who desire a closer walk with the Lord, whatever their starting point is.

Remember:

-  Wise sponsorship is always prayerful and purposeful.
-  Candidates are sponsored for all three phases:  Pre-weekend, Weekend, and Fourth Day; not just the weekend!
NO SECRETS!  Never give someone the impression you can't tell them something about Tres Dias.  Answer ALL questions.  It is OK to tell them there are 15 talks, communion and chapel every day, discussion groups and great food.  Encourage them to check out the Tres Dias website (www.tresdias.org) and brochures.  Even if you tell everyone every detail about the weekend, God would still have something special for them.

Practical application - While you might want to keep Serenade and Palanca a "secret", there is no reason for not telling a potential candidate that they will hear talks by lay people and clergy, engage in small group discussions and have praise and worship, chapel visits, etc.

Message Board

message board

Don't forget to use the message board,http://ngtd.activeboard.com for prayer requests, praise reports and other community member announcements.  There are areas for prayer requests, ministry events, needs & seeds, and any other items you may have that would be of interest to the community.

Tres Dias Essentials

There are some components of the weekend that are "essential", some are "optional", some are "accidental", and some are "divinely orchestrated".  The essentials are proscribed by Tres Dias International.  Here are more (continued from previous newsletters):

3.2  The essentials of the weekend phase

18.  That table discussion will follow each rollo except the Fourth Day.

19.  That all rollos and meditatons follow the dynamics and outlines authorized by TRES DIAS.

20.  That the team and candidates have the opportunity to celebrate Holy Communion each full day of the weekend.

21.  That a diversity of environments and viewpoints must be attempted in planning the weekend itself and in forming the tables.

22.  That the freedom of self-determination of each candidate be respected.

23.  The the lay rollos be informal talks of a witnessing or sharing nature.

24.  That a friendly creative Christian environment be developed and fostered during the TRES DIAS weekend, as opposed to a coercive or manipulative environment.

25.  That the schedule allow time for informal personal contact among the team and the candidates.

26.  That the Closing be as well prepared as other activities of the weekend.

27.  That the sponsoring secretariat encourage the community to participate in the weekend through spiritual service and Palanca.

Tres Dias Guide For Team Members

The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.

THE ROLE OF THE TEAM MEMBER

 (Continued from previous issue)

COMMON TASKS - THE WEEKEND

The second area of common responsibility takes place during the Tres Dias weekend.  You are important in the process of making the Weekend effective.  Some actions which are helpful include:

- Learn as many candidate's names as possible;
- Be as available as possible to the candidates during breaks and off-hours for fellowship and to get to know them;
- Wear your name tag;
- Observe the silent retreat time during the first evening;
- Share in the financial support of the Weekend;
-  Perform the tasks assighned to you to the best of your ability, letting others do theirs; and,
- Trust the rector as God's chosen leader for the Weekend.

Remember that you will be blessed most when you are serving with love and humility.

Secretariat Reminders

reminder
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs"

Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend my attend Tres Dias functions.

We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.

-   -   -

Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God & what He has in store for them.

  -   -   -

There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat.  We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat.  If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly.  For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.

-   -   -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only.  This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.

If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the message board referenced earlier in this newsletter.

-   -   -

Over the years a tradition has evolved where the sponsor paid the fee for their candidate's weekend; however, it is not a requirement to sponsorship.  Please do not avoid sponsoring just because you can't pay their fee or only sponsor those you can pay for in your budget.  Many sponsors will mention the $125.00 weekend fee up front and ask if that would that be a problem?

Think of it this way, if you invite friends to go see the Falcon's play, that does not obligate you to pay for their tickets or if you invite someone to go to a concert you do not feel obligated to pick up the tab. Remember the only way your friends can experience Tres Dias is for you to sponsor them.

-   -   -

Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees.
-   -   -

The Secretariat has openings coming up for the following positions:
Treasurer
Women's Leader
Palanca
Weekend
Fourth Day

For more information about the blessings and responsibilities of each of these position, contact any member of the Secretariat.  Contact information can be found at
Sponsorhip Note
Some new Pescadores have asked what they can do to sponsor those who have a husband that does not wish to attend a TD weekend.  Also, the waiting list for single females can be quite long.

Walk To Emmaus is a similar "3 day movement" and they hold their weekends almost every weekend during the year and sometimes several are going on at the same time.

Emmaus does not have a "couples lock" for their sponsorship.  The applicants are called on a first/come first/serve basis.  If you have a single female candidate, or a candidate whose husband refuses to attend,  you may choose to investigate Emmaus to have them attend a three-day weekend.  Then they can be added to our TDNG database and sign up to serve on a Tres Dias team and be involved in our Fourth Day activities.

The Word

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?  When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.  Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me; even then will I be confident."
Psalm 27:1-4
