Outside
in or the Inside out?
Personal reflection is a part of our
order of reunion: What vital aids have you used this week to nurture your
intimate union with Christ? How have you been encouraged and motivated by God's
word? It is very interesting that as I talk to
some folks in the nursing home they describe a "thinning out of life". For them life is emptying out of meaning. Yet
for others, despite their physical afflictions, they remain vibrant and find
ways to be usefully engaged in living right up to the time they go home to be
with the Lord.
The same disengagement from life can be
seen in people of all ages. Today there is a sweeping "bunker mentality of
isolation" and uninvolvement from relational living. The origin of this human condition can be
found at the beginning of the Bible in the Genesis record.
From historical creation it is recorded
that Adam and Eve were created by God and lived naked in the garden and enjoyed
their life in that idyllic environment. They were given responsibilities to
dress, till and keep the soil; to have dominion over the earth God had given
them as a gift and to see each other as the helper/completer of the other.
You might say their focus was
specifically and uniquely outward.
They viewed life with eyes that were looking beyond themselves. They were not
preoccupied with their inward self but desired to be useful and fulfilled
through meaningful service, using their divine life, gifts and talents to
produce results that brought God's purpose for them in His creation to
fruition.
Following the rebellion, God asked the
question, "Where are you?" (in what condition do you now find yourself?). Adam
replies, "I heard you in the garden and was afraid because I was naked." Among
Noah Webster's definitions of naked: Having no means of defense or protection;
unarmed defenseless.
God now asks a very interesting question, "Who told you that you were naked?" [Gen. 3:11] There is no one else present to tell him his condition. He discovers he
is naked because his entire focus has been changed. Where he once looked
outwardly now his eyes drop down on to himself and he perceives his nakedness
with shame. From this moment on his motivation is to
protect and cover himself at all cost. As many of us have discovered that is an
exhausting and endless journey.
How wonderful that through the exchanged
life of Messiah's resurrection we once again can begin to enjoy the real
meaning of life with eyes that focus outward as God intended. We enjoy that
intimacy with Abba that we were created for, and listen for how He wants to use
us to bless others. We are covered with His righteousness and are no longer
motivated by fear of being defenseless and exposed.
Life is lived from "the inside out" just
as He designed that it should be lived and, oh my, what a difference that makes!
DeColores, Bill

Sponsorship and the Responsibilities of a Sponsor
This is the fifth article in a series about the joys and responsibilities of being a sponsor.
Sponsoring candidates is only one of the many joys we have as members of the TD community. However, sponsorship brings with it several serious responsibilities to the candidates, to the community, and ultimately, to God.
It has been said that the most important part of Tres Dias is sponsorship.
Who to Sponsor
Church Leaders - clergy and lay people who bring new visions, commitment and understanding to their congregations.
Dependable Church Members - who are the backbone of the church.
Less Active Members - who need their awareness of grace rekindled and their commitments renewed.
Christians - those who are hungry for "something more" and who want to grow spiritually.
....and those who desire a closer relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Practical application - While God can, and does, work wonders in the hearts of most who attend a weekend, the stated purpose of Tres Dias is to "build Christian leaders" who will go back into whatever environment they find themselves and lead people and organizations in to a closer walk with Jesus. What better place for this impact to occur than in His church? You should also make sure that you know the person well enough to fulfill the responsibilities of a sponsor when your candidate is called for their weekend.

Tres Dias Guide For Team Members
The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.
THE ROLE OF THE TEAM MEMBER
(Continued from previous issue)
COMMON TASKS
While each team member has a unique role to fulfill, some tasks are shared among them. These can be divided into three categories: team building, participating in the Weekend, and critiquing the Weekend.
TEAM BUILDING (PRE-WEEKEND PHASE)
Each team member is responsible for helping to build a cohesive team. This process occurs during the formative pre-weekend team meetings. Each team member should:
- Pray without ceasing for the candidates, team, their families and the community - Attend all team meetings - Prepare for and know your team duties - Contribute to the sharing times - Make an effort to meet and know all team members - Participate with love in all liturgies, worship and praise sessions - Become familiar with the outline for each rollo - Enter into the rollo critique process with love and caring for your teammates and for what may affect/impact the candidates - Believe that the rector was chosen and anointed by God to be the human leader for the weekend - Believe that God will give special power, grace and wisdom to the rector for the purpose of glorifying God during this time.
Importantly, apply to this team experience, the same mind you had on your original Tres Dias Weekend. Then, (depending on where you made your Weekend) your rector asked you to:
- Believe that great things are possible - Have a spirit of openness to God and what He is asking of you - Have a loving concern for one another and total trust in God
or
- Receive things in a Spirit of idealism - Receive things in a Spirit of Cooperation - Receive things in a Spirit of Love

Secretariat Reminders
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs"
Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend my attend Tres Dias functions.
We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.
- - -
Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God & what He has in store for them.
- - -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat. We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat. If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly. For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.
- - - TDNG Roster and Database Usage
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only. This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.
If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the message board referenced earlier in this newsletter.
