The fall is in full swing and we've already reached the end of the first grading period - time moves so fast! Are your students off to the start that you hoped for? If not, don't let this school year slip away! |
Developing Good Study Skills
Children who spend quality time on homework do better in school, and the academic benefits increase as they move into the upper grades. By forming positive homework routines with your child now, you will be preparing him or her for studies in school, in college and in life.
Here are seven steps to help your child make homework a priority and encourage a lifelong love of learning.
Communicate with Teachers - Meet early in the school year; find out about grading periods; review homework policy; discuss classroom and learning expectations
Designate a Study Place - Pick a quiet place with limited distractions; set a regular time and be consistent; provide supplies and resources
Provide Guidance and Support - Understand your role; respect your child's learning style; review assignments together; utilize a calendar Check for Understanding - Discuss assignments; offer feedback, quiz your child and give practice tests; play study games and use flashcards Show an Interest - Read with your child; discuss school and learning activities daily; particpate in school activities; get to know classmates and parents Use Positive Reinforcement - Give praise and encourangement; use a reward-based motivation system; celebrate victories Notice Struggles - Observe signs of frustration; ask questions; meet with your child's teacher; don't hesitate to use outside help

KnowledgePoints of Land O' Lakes Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary!
We can't believe it's already been 1 year, but what a year it has been! We have exceeded every goal we set for ourselves this first year, which is amazing in this economic climate. We want to thank all of our customers who have entrusted us with such an important role in their children's lives, and we especially thank all those who have referred their friends and family to us as well. Almost all of our new students over the past 3 months have come from referrals, which is the greatest compliment we can receive!
We are fortunate to have such a wonderful staff who truly cares about our students, and we're all looking forward to another fantastic year. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of so many children in our community.

From Our Families
"Sarah is doing so well - she never used to want to read and now she wants to read me everything she gets her hands on. Even when we're watching television, she reads any words that come up on screen aloud to me. We are so happy to have her back on track! "
