The Grants & Nonprofit Info Center now has a Facebook page! Like us to receive news, information, trainings, workshops, and funding opportunities relevant to local nonprofits. We average only 1-2 posts per day, so don't worry about being swamped with information.  

 

You should also be aware that there are a variety of upcoming workshops in May that will not be repeated again for at least a year. Meet four local organizations that provide free and fee-based services to nonprofits at the Find Help for Your Nonprofit informational fair on May 3rd. If you want to explore special event fundraising, make sure you attend Beyond the Bakesale on May 18th. Understanding Collaboration on May 22nd will discuss the variety of ways that you can partner with another organization to maximize impact. Make sure to register for these workshops. If you don't attend them now, you'll miss out!

Women of Worth Awards Honor Volunteers

Deadline: May 31, 2012

L'Oreal Paris encourages people across the United States to nominate a woman they admire for her dedication to volunteerism and charitable efforts. A nominee should have a record of exemplary service within her community and the community at large, be able to demonstrate the impact of her work within her community, be aspirational and inspirational to others, demonstrate commitment to her cause, exemplify leadership, and be non-compensated for the activities for which she is nominated. Ten honorees will each receive $10,000 for her charitable cause, and one national honoree will be chosen via a public online vote to receive an additional $25,000 for her charity.

Sabbaticals for Christian Pastors  

Deadline: May 11, 2012

The National Clergy Renewal Program provides support to Christian congregations throughout the country whose pastors wish to take time for reflection and renewal. In 2012, the program intends to provide as many as 150 grants of up to $50,000 to congregations whose pastors and parishioners, working together, produce compelling plans for an extended sabbatical time for the minister and a complementary set of activities for congregational renewal. Up to $15,000 of the grant may be used to help the congregation fulfill pastoral duties during the pastor's absence and/or to support activities that enable the congregation as a whole to be renewed in its ministry. Christian congregations whose ordained pastors have a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological school are eligible to apply.

Support for Music, Education, and Grassroots Organizing Programs  

Deadline: May 9, 2012

The Sparkplug Foundation primarily supports nonprofit organizations that are proposing start-up projects in the fields of music, education, and grassroots organizing. In the Music category, the Foundation supports emerging professional musicians or music-development programs. In Education and Teaching, the Foundation funds projects that deal with "the whole student" and with learning as a community activity. Through Grassroots Organizing, the Foundation encourages activist strategies for addressing institutional injustices and for building a reasoned, just society. The first steps in the online application process must be completed by May 9, 2012. The deadline for final applications is May 30, 2012.

Guest Artist Initiative Program  

Deadline: May 14, 2012

Colleges and universities in the United States are invited to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to fund and facilitate the hiring of professional stage directors and choreographers as guest artists on productions. A Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation panel comprised of professional directors and choreographers, arts administrators, and college educators will select productions for the award. Two proposals will receive funding and facilitation services, and several more will be offered free facilitation services. The schools will be solely responsible for selecting the Guest Artist among SDC Members applicants.

Support for Indigenous Governance Projects in the Americas and the Arctic

Deadline: May 31, 2012

First Peoples Worldwide supports Indigenous controlled, locally initiated, community driven development through the Keepers of the Earth Fund. The goal of the Traditional and Contemporary Self Governance program, an initiative of The Keepers of the Earth Fund, is to actualize free prior informed consent and support Indigenous projects that strengthen traditional and contemporary governance structures in ways that align with community values, provide inclusive political systems, and demonstrate principles of good governance in the Arctic and the Americas. Grants will range from $5,000 to $20,000 covering an eight to ten month timeframe. All applicants must be an Indigenous-led grassroots/local or community-based institution in the Arctic or the Americas and have an organizational bank account or a fiscal sponsor.

Artist Residencies Initiative

Deadline: June 1, 2012

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is accepting Intent to Apply forms for the first round of the Doris Duke Artist Residencies. The program will support at least fifty residencies for artists at dance companies, theaters, presenting organizations, and/or select service organizations. Residencies will support attempts by exemplary artists and organizations to increase demand for jazz, theater, and contemporary dance. To be eligible for support, artists and organizations must have a prior history of working together and collaborate on designing the residencies. The foundation will award a total of up to $1.5 million annually in grants of $75,000 or $150,000 for use over three years.

Film Festival Grant Program

Deadline: June 27, 2012

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Film Festival Grant program is accepting applications for festivals in the United States occurring during the 2013 calendar year. Only film festivals that have completed at least five festivals as of December 31, 2011, are eligible to apply. While the grants are awarded for a variety of programs, film festivals are encouraged to submit proposals that make festival events more accessible to the general public, provide greater access to minority and less visible filmmakers, and help strengthen the connection between the filmmaker and the public. Grant sizes vary depending on the festival cash budget.

Workforce & Senior Support Grants

Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation has announced two funding opportunities, one for workforce development and the other to support seniors, to Pima County nonprofits. Grants Encourage Educational Video Games for Youth 

Deadline: May 15, 2012

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation is dedicated to supporting positive programs and opportunities that make a difference in the lives of America's youth. The Foundation seeks to harness the collective power of interactive entertainment by funding programs that utilize technology or computer and video games to educate America's youth and young adults, ages 7-18. Funded programs must be available nationwide, or reach at least two or more states.

New World History Curriculum Grant Program 

Deadline: May 31, 2012

Our Shared Past is a program designed to promote the development of international scholarly communities that are committed to analyzing history curriculum and reframing the teaching of world history through the identification of new scholarship and the development of new curricular content that illustrate shared cultural, economic, military, religious, social, and scientific networks and practices as well as shared global norms and values that inform world history and society. Grants will be made to research teams and research centers at university campuses in the United States. The program anticipates awarding five grants of up to $75,000 for a period of twelve months. Grants may support workshops that convene scholars and advisory boards as well as partnerships between regional educational organizations and advocates or support public-facing events that allow for engagement with world history curriculum reform.

Education & Workforce Development

The Henry W. Bull Foundation makes grants to nonprofits in the U.S. for the arts, education, and health and human services. Workforce development and education for children are two areas where they have previously focused their giving. Past grants have ranged from $2,000 to $10,000. To apply for funding, mail your proposal and IRS determination letter to the Foundation c/o Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 2340, Santa Barbara, CA 93120-2340. Organizations with ties to its board members are most likely to be funded. The Brabson Library & Educational Foundation provides grants to organizations throughout the country for education, music programs, orchestra and opera organizations. Grants range from $1,000 to $50,000.
