eBooks for Nonprofits 

Thank you all for reading the special edition email about the eBook Club that we're holding here at the library. If you were unable to join us for the eBook club to read Switch: How to Change When Change is Hard and would still like to read the book, you can always check out the physical book or use OverDrive to download it as an audiobook or eBook to read on your own time.  You may also be interested in knowing about the following eBook titles for nonprofits available through OverDrive: The Ask: How to Ask for Support for Your Nonprofit Cause, Creative Project, or Business Venture by Laura Fredricks; The Nonprofit Board Answer Book: A Practical Guide for Board Members and Chief Executives; and Recruiting and Training Fundraising Volunteers by Linda Lysakowski. These are only a few examples of books geared towards nonprofits available through OverDrive, so if you haven't checked out this service yet I highly recommend it!

Dance Production Grants

Deadline: March 1, 2012   

The New England Foundation for the Arts provides production grants to fund the development of new dance work that will tour nationally, generally in the following season. Grants support costs incurred through the artistic creation of the work. These grants are highly competitive and 20 are typically awarded annually. Grants generally range from $25,000 to $40,000.

Grants Promote Music Collaborations

Deadline: March 19, 2012  

The mission of New Music USA is to increase opportunities for composers by fostering the creation, performance, dissemination, and appreciation of their music. New Music USA's Commissioning Music/USA provides grants of between $10,000 and $20,000 to commissioning organizations for the composer's fee and copying expenses. The 2012 grant round will consider applications for collaborative works that involve music with other visual, media, or performing art forms in integrated and inseparable ways. Applications may be submitted by a single commissioner or consortium of commissioning organizations.

Cultural & Artistic Community Enrichment Programs

Deadline: March 31, 2012

U.S. Bancorp contributes to the strength and vitality of our communities through the Foundation charitable contributions program. We seek to build strong partnerships and lasting value in our communities by supporting organizations that improve the educational and economic opportunities of low- and moderate-income individuals and families, and enhance the cultural and artistic life of the communities in which we live and work. Funding is available for 501 (c)(3) organizations whose projects coincide with these funding priorities: Economic Opportunity, Affordable Housing, Self-Sufficiency, Economic Development, Education, Cultural and Artistic Enrichment, Human Services.

Out of State Touring Performance Grants

Deadline: April 2, 2012  

TourWest is a competitive grant program that provides subsidies to arts and community organizations for the presentation of out-of-state touring performers and literary artists. All TourWest grants must be matched on a one-to-one basis in cash by the presenting organization. In order to receive funding from this program, applicants should demonstrate their commitment to several key elements: a) high artistic quality; b) collaboration and block booking; c) the presentation of diverse art forms; and d) audience development. Grants of up to $2,500 will be made.

Literacy & Education

Adult and Family Literacy and Summer Reading Grants 

Deadline: February 28, 2012

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation works to improve the functional literacy of adults, families, and youth by providing grants to nonprofit organizations dedicated to the advancement of literacy in the company's thirty-five-state market area. The foundation is accepting applications for the adult literacy, family literacy and summer reading programs. The maximum grant amount for family or adult literacy programs is $15,000, and the maximum grant amount for the summer reading program is $3,000.

Environmental Education & Outreach

Deadline: March 10, 2012

Constellation Energy, a national energy company, is accepting applications for its annual EcoStar Grant program, which provides qualifying nonprofit organizations with funds to implement projects that support the company's commitment to environmental stewardship. The EcoStar program targets community-based projects that fit into one or more of five stewardship categories - pollution prevention, education and outreach, energy efficiency, conservation, and community activism. Grant awards will be up to $5,000, with funds provided through the Constellation Energy Foundation.

Financial Education & Job Training

Deadline: March 30, 2012 (letter of intent)

The All State Foundation awards grants to state domestic violence coalitions and local programs to enhance projects that help survivors overcome economic challenges and achieve financial independence. Special emphasis is directed toward financial education through the use of Allstate's Moving Ahead Through Money Management Curriculum; matched saving programs including Individual Development Accounts; job readiness and job training; and microloans and microenterprise. The average grant amount ranges from $5,000 to $20,000 for local grants.

Empathy Education Projects in Schools

Deadline: March 30, 2012  

Ashoka Changemakers has announced the launch of Activating Empathy: Transforming Schools to Teach What Matters, a global competition seeking solutions that help young people learn and practice empathy in school so they are equipped to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The competition is open to all individuals, organizations, and collaborations from all countries. Entries are sought from teachers, principals, parents, students, and other innovators with a project, a program, or a new learning experience that can advance empathy in education. Grants of $5,000 will be awarded to the winners.

Grants for Elementary School Educators

Deadline: April 15, 2012

The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation seeks to serve as a catalyst in maximizing the skills and creativity of K-12 educators and in cultivating pioneering approaches to teaching that result in dynamic student learning. The foundation has announced a call for applications for its 2012-13 Academic Enrichment grants and Teacher Development grants. The Academic Enrichment grants of up to $10,000 provide funding for in-class and extracurricular programs that nurture the intellectual, artistic, and creative abilities of pre-2 grade students from low-income households. Teacher Development Grants provide funding to individuals or small teams of teachers in the formation and implementation of groundbreaking collaborative K-12 classroom instruction. Grants will be awarded to individuals in amounts of up to $10,000 per year, for a maximum of three years.

The mission of the Grants & Nonprofit Information Center is to provide information resources for nonprofit and community organizations to assist them in fulfilling their missions. You can visit us on the 3rd floor of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library in downtown Tucson.
