Prize for Volunteers 60+

The John Templeton Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies invites Nominations for the Purpose Prize - an investment in people over 60 who are combining their passion and experience for social good. Five prizes of $100,000 are anticipated. To be eligible for the prize, a nominee must be at least 60 years old by the nomination deadline and be a legal resident of the United States (including its territories).

African American History and Cultural Museums

The Institute of Museum and Library Services' Museum Grants for African American History and Culture are intended to enhance institutional capacity and sustainability through professional training, technical assistance, internships, outside expertise, and other tools. Successful proposals will focus on one or more of three goals: developing or strengthening the knowledge, skills, and other expertise of current staff at African American museums; attracting and retaining professionals with the skills needed to strengthen African American museums; and attracting new staff to African American museum practice and providing them with the expertise needed to sustain them in the museum field. Grants range from $5,000 to $150,000 and must be matched with funds from non-federal sources on at least a 1:1 basis. Generally, funded project activities may be carried out for up to two years.

American Music Recordings

The Aaron Copland Fund for Music's Recording program aims to document and provide wider exposure for the music of contemporary American composers, develop audiences for contemporary American music through record distribution and other retail markets, and support the release and dissemination of recordings of previously unreleased contemporary American music and the reissuance of recordings that are no longer available. Grants of up to $20,000 will be made.

Deadline: March 1, 2012 This grant opportunity requires arts and cultural organizations to examine their comprehensive capitalization plans and include the annual costs associated with operating and maintaining the physical infrastructure of their organizations, namely their facilities. Although this grant opportunity places an emphasis on facility investments and building reserves, its primary purpose is to foster the examination and understanding of comprehensive organizational capitalization.

Career Exploration Programs for Youth

Deadline: December 14, 2011 The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens supports nonprofit organizations that provide teens throughout the country with real-world experiences focused on career exploration, college, and community service. The Foundation provides grants through the following categories: 1) Graduate to Go College Experience Grants focus on programs that allow teens to explore opportunities at local universities, community colleges, and/or technical schools, and also learn about the college application process; 2) Graduate to Go Career Experience Grants promote programs that offer teens the opportunity to find out about various career options through job shadow days, professional mentorship programs, etc. and 3) Graduate to Go General Experience Grants support unique teen programs/experiences that fall outside of the criteria of the categories described above.

Training & Education for Women

Deadline: December 21, 2011 (required pre-proposal) The J. Jill Compassion Fund provides grants to nonprofit organizations serving women in need in communities throughout the United States where J. Jill stores are located. The Fund supports organizations that offer job training, education, and transitional or affordable housing for women, as well as programs that break down barriers for women in crisis to help them achieve and sustain self-sufficiency. Grant funding priority is given to organizations that have established a relationship or connection with one or more of the J. Jill store(s). Support is limited to the expansion or enhancement of existing programs, rather than funding for new programs.

Fellowships for Teacher Enrichment Activities

The Fund for Teachers awards fellowships to pre-K-12 classroom teachers in selected school districts in a number of states and Washington, DC so that they may participate in training and enriching activities that will improve their skills as teachers. Applicants must propose a summer activity and explain how the endeavor will make the applicant a better teacher; how the applicant will implement his or her new improved skills in the classroom; and how these improved skills will benefit students, curricula, and the school. Teachers must have a minimum of three years experience and be full-time teachers spending at least 50% of their time in the classroom. Eligible teachers may apply as individuals (funding limit of $5,000) or as a team (funding limit of $10,000).

Award for Outstanding Library Public Relations Efforts

The John Cotton Dana Award is designed to honor outstanding library public relations, whether a summer reading program, a year-long centennial celebration, fundraising for a new college library, an awareness campaign, or an innovative partnership in the community. Eight development grants of $10,000 each will be awarded for communication projects from all sizes and types of libraries including rebranding efforts, promoting unique archives, awareness campaigns, and community partnerships.

The Computers for Learning program places computers in classrooms, prepares children to contribute and compete in the 21st century, and allows government agencies and the private sector to transfer surplus computers and related equipment to schools and educational nonprofit organizations.
