New Free Apps for Grant Research

The Foundation Center, the premier source of information about philanthropy worldwide, has announced the release of the Foundation Directory Mobile iPhone app. Download the free app and use the Foundation Directory Online while connected to WiFi at any one of the Pima County Public Libraries. You'll stay signed in for 24 hours-even after you leave the library! However, if your smartphone isn't an iPhone you can still use the Foundation Center's free Foundation Finder Mobile app to get contact information and key financial data on grantmakers.

Arizona Cox Conserves Hero Awards

Cox Communications will recognize two individuals as Arizona's Cox Conserves Heroes, and a total of $14,000 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits. Arizona's Cox Conserves Heroes - one for Phoenix and one for Southern Arizona - will be chosen through online voting and will each be awarded $5,000 to donate to the environmental nonprofit of their choice. Finalists' nonprofits of choice will receive $1,000. The program invites local residents to nominate volunteers in their community who help create, preserve, and enhance outdoor places for everyone to enjoy. Eligible nominees must not receive financial compensation for their conservation work.

The W.L.S. Spencer Foundation funds educational activities, publications and outreach associated with innovative art and/or contemporary art exhibitions, especially those focusing on contemporary Asian Art. They are interested in projects that encourage knowledge about art and culture, foster international understanding, and are supported by academic scholarship. Typical grants range from $5,000 to $75,000.

The Alavi Foundation aims to promote harmony and understanding among people of different religions, as well as provide grants for the study of the humanities, arts, and pure and applied sciences. School Gardens

Whole Kids Foundation is able to provide grants of $2,000 to support school garden projects. To be eligible for a garden grant, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or nonprofit K-12 school that is developing or currently maintaining a school garden project that will help children engage with fresh fruits and vegetables. Garden projects may be at any stage of development; planning, construction or operation.

Support for Nutrition Programs Worldwide

The Allen Foundation supports nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions worldwide that promote human nutrition in the areas of health, education, training, and research. The Foundation's grantmaking priorities include the following: nutritional education for mothers during pregnancy and after the birth of their children, training for educators and demonstrators of good nutritional practices, and the dissemination of healthful nutritional information. Relevant nutritional research projects are also supported. Preference may be given to proposals that include matching funds from the applicant or other partners, including in-kind contributions.

ARAMARK Building Community will provide three $20,000 programmatic grants to recognize excellence in workforce readiness - preparing people for, and connecting them to jobs - and will support future program execution in the following categories: preparation for growth industries; skills training for targeted populations; and business ventures as training ground. Grants Enhance U.S. Farm Communities

The Monsanto Fund seeks to encourage the growth of farming communities across the United States with K-12 education grants that enhance programs designed to improve education in farming communities, including supporting schools, libraries, science centers, farmer training programs, and academic programs that supplement school programs. Grants of up to $20,000 will be made. Proposals will be accepted from nonprofit organizations from January 1 through February 28, 2012.

PreK-12 School Libraries

Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Fund, administered by the American Library Association (ALA), supports public school libraries in the communities served by Dollar General. The Fund provides grants of $5,000 to $15,000 to preK-12 public schools whose school library programs have been affected by a natural disaster, fire, or an act of terrorism. Schools that have absorbed a significant number (more than 10% of enrollment) of displaced/evacuee students are also eligible to apply. Grants are intended to help replace or supplement books, media, and/or library equipment.
