Grantmaker Transparency in the Form 990-PF

Oftentimes foundation grantmakers do not have websites, so we provide you links to the Foundation Center's Foundation Finder. This tool provides basic contact information, as well as access to the funder's most recent 990-PF forms. These required informational forms filed with the IRS are treasure troves of information and are actually quite easy to read after some practice. You can read about a funder's giving priorities, board of trustees, proposal requirements, application deadlines, and most importantly the list of recently made grants to nonprofit organizations. These forms are also where the Foundation Directory Online and the Arizona Guide to Grants get much of their information for their funder profiles. See the Foundation Center's guide on how to read a 990 Form  to discover the relevant statements.
