Stay in the Nonprofit Know
Nonprofits that are best able to react to new situations are those that saw them coming. Foresight doesn't have to be magical-nonprofit employees and volunteers can also stay in the loop by watching for national trends and being aware of local and state issues that may have an impact on how their nonprofit operates. You may think there isn't time in the day to seek out this information, but an easy way to stay abreast of these topics is to subscribe to a nonprofit emailed newsletter. There are many great resources for you to check out, but here is the short list of my favorite emailed newsletters: the National Council of Nonprofits' Nonprofit Advocacy Matters gives information about national and state politics that affect the third sector, Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits' The Connecter distributes the latest nonprofit news in Arizona, and the Foundation Center's Philanthropy News Digest distributes philanthropy-related articles and features culled from print and electronic media outlets nationwide.
