Just like many nonprofits, the Library has tried a variety of tools to increase the community's knowledge of our online forum. The Jim Henson Foundation |
Deadline: April 8, 2011 (Letter of Intent) The Foundation awards grants each year for the creation and development of contemporary puppet theater. Although the majority of the grants are awarded for adult work, they also welcome applications for innovative work for family audiences. Project grants of $5,000 are awarded for the continued development and production of new works ready to be presented in the coming year. Seed grants of $2,000 are for the development and workshopping of pieces in earlier stages of creation. Family show grants of $3,000 fund the development of new and innovative work specifically for children, families, and teenagers.

Art History & Conservation Grants |

Through its Grant Programs, the Kress Foundation supports scholarly projects that promote the appreciation, interpretation, preservation, study and teaching of European art from antiquity to the early 19th century. Their History of Art, Conservation, and Digital Resources programs all have upcoming deadlines of April 15. Responsive Grants are accepted continuously.

Documentary Film Grants |
Deadline: April 15, 2011
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is accepting proposals for its 2011 documentary film grants program. The program seeks to fund documentary film projects that address the significant social challenges of our time or explore important but under-reported topics. Domestic and international topics are welcome. Support will be provided primarily for production and post-production activities (although some of the funds may be used for pre-production or outreach activities). Documentary stories that will be told both in film and a second medium are encouraged. The foundation funds only eight to twelve documentary film projects a year. The typical MacArthur documentary film grant is between $100,000 and $200,000.

The Foundation has an interest in arts and culture, performing arts, music education, and museums, as well as other topics. The Foundation supports programs that enhance the quality of life in areas of company operations, including Tucson, with a special emphasis on children and youth. Program areas are focused on the arts & culture and community development as well as other topics. Past grants have been under $5,000.

Marshall Foundation Grants for Pima County Projects |

The Foundation gives primary consideration to organizations involved in health, education and youth-oriented projects and services strictly in Pima County. The foundation rates proposals on relevance of the project to the organization's mission, completeness of the application, the availability of funds, and the impact on the community. Education Reform |

The Foundation is interested in proposals utilizing innovative practices in K-12 education throughout the United States. Of particular interest are 1) curricular and school reform initiatives and 2) the preparation of and professional development opportunities for teachers, particularly those which encourage people of high ability and diverse background to enter and remain in K-12 teaching.

The Lemelson-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Program provides high school students in the United States with the opportunity to cultivate their creativity and to experience invention. Grants are given to science, math, and technology teachers at public, private and vocational high schools up to $10,000.

Academic Enrichment Grants |

The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation's Academic Enrichment Grants provide funding for programs that nurture the intellectual, artistic, and creative abilities of children from low-income households. The foundation awards grants to individuals in amounts of up to $10,000 a year for a maximum of three years.

Financial Planning Programs Funded |

The mission of the Foundation for Financial Planning is to help people take control of their financial lives by connecting the financial planning community with people in need. The Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations nationwide for community outreach and pro bono activities that utilize financial planning practitioners in the delivery of services. Support is provided to organizations that deliver services to specific target audiences who are underserved by the market, in need of financial guidance, or in a financial crisis. Priority is given to outreach efforts to military personnel and their families, Financial Life Skills education programs through high schools and/or youth organizations, and programs offered through community-based organizations. Programs that can be replicated on a regional or nationwide basis are given special consideration.

The Caterpillar Foundation funds projects pertaining to education, the environment, basic human needs or the economically disadvantaged. Tucson-area projects are eligible. The foundation generally funds projects in the range of $1,000 to $10,000 through their online proposal submission process.
