Declare Your Fitness Independence!

~ Holiday Fitness Tips ~
Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of year again. A time when "We the People" reflect on our nation's struggle for independence from our "oppressors."
We'd like to encourage you to formerly declare your own personal fitness independence from all those barbecues, buffet lines and cocktail parties! Those can truly be the fitness oppressors! Staying healthy and fit can be difficult enough as it is! Just because it's party time, does not mean we shouldn't stay focused! Go in with a plan and a goal! Perhaps it's to have one drink, or one taste of dessert, and fill up on salads or veggies and lean chicken breast. But whatever it takes. Plan ahead. Bring your own healthy food if necessary (see our fabulous Teaser Shrimp Appetizer recipe below)! You can do it! If you love the results you've seen so far from your work at RockIt Body - don't lose the momentum or focus!

4th of July Recipe
Teaser Shrimp
Bites Baby! Contributed by Lisa Jey Davis
Taken from Weight Watcher Magazine (original title: Shrimp with Cilantro Mojo on Tortilla Crisps). Mojo, a citrus-based sauce invented in Cuba, can be used both as a marinade and as an accompaniment for cooked meats, fish, or poultry.
4 (6-inch) corn tortillas, each cut into 6 triangles.
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup orange juice
1/4 cup fat-free chicken broth
3 garlic cloves, minced
4 teaspoons olive oil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 pount (about 24) large shrimp, peeled and deveined.
1. Preheat over to 350°F. Arrange tortilla triangles on a jelly-roll pan in a single layer. Lightly coat the tortillas with nonstick spray and sprinkle with ¼ teaspoon of the salt. Bake until tortillas are crisp and lightly browned around the edges, about 6-7 minutes; set aside. 2. Combine the orange juice, lime juice, chicken broth, garlic, 3 teaspoons of the oil, the sugar, ½ teaspoon of the remaining salt, and the oregano in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, stir in the cilantro, and cool 5 minutes. Reserve ¼ cup of the mojo and set aside. Pour the remaining mojo into a medium bowl and add the shrimp, tossing well to coat. Let the shrimp marinate 15 minutes. 3. Drain the shtrimp, season with the remaining ¼ teaspoon salt, and discard the marinade. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Swirl in the remaining 1 teaspoon oil, then add the shrimp. Cook until opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side; remove from heat. Arrange each shrimp on a tortilla crisp and drizzle with the reserve of the mojo sauce.

TRAINER TIP - From the Fitness Mind of Suzie Collis
Suzie Collis, Team RockIt Body |
Skinny Jean Thigh Workout: 1. Put on your favorite song that really makes you want to dance.2. Stand next to your kitchen counter or behind a chair. Holding on to it lightly.place your heels together and toes apart in a small V3. Lift up on to your toes, pressing your heels together and your thighs together (like a zipper).4. Keeping your heels lifted, bend your knees while maintaining your shoulders, hips and heels in line as if you are sliding down a wall.5. Go to a level where your thighs contract keeping the spine lifted, knees, hips and shoulders in line. Hold the position for 10 seconds, raise hips up an inch then go back down.6. Then bring your feet together and repeat! You can also place your feet shoulder width apart.
Do this for 3-4 minutes.
And remember, when your thighs start shaking, your body is changing!
Don't come out of the position! Just keeping repeating to yourself, "I will look so great in my skinny jeans!" |
"Fave!"
