TeamWork

On April 22, adults and children alike joined the Saugus River Watershed Council, National Park Service and Essex National Heritage Commission for a first hand look at fish monitoring in the Saugus River.

Families joined SRWC Director Joan LeBlanc and National Park Service Ranger Michelle Blees to identify and monitor rainbow smelt, American eels and other fish in the river.

Wine Tasting a Great Success

Wine Tasting
Special thanks to Beena Patel and the Wine Shop of Reading for co-hosting our first wine tasting fundraiser last month.  Members and friends of the Saugus River Watershed Council tasted special wine and cheese pairings while enjoying live music by Kirsten and Dave.  Congratulations to Steve and Helen Winslow who won the wine basket raffle, and Kathy Wrynn who won our "Take a Chance on the River" raffle.  Thanks also to the Wine Shop of Reading for donating a percentage of sales toward the Saugus River Watershed Council's environmental education programs.

Exploring Wildlife Signs with Bob Metcalfe
WinterWildlifeProgram3

On Sunday, March 7th, over 120 people joined the Saugus River Watershed Council and New England Discovery for a winter wildlife program at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus.  Families enjoyed hiking through Breakheart while looking for signs of wildlife, toasting marshmallows by a campfire, and playing outdoor games with a wildlife theme.  Special thanks to Bob Metcalfe, Kent Jackson, Bob McLaughlin, Debra Panetta, Mark Panetta Jr., and all of the staff at Breakheart Reservation for making this free family event such a great success.  (Photo by Mark Panetta Jr.)
