Back to School
aka
Return to the Future

revPrepby Lili BarshaThe 2010-2011 school-year has begun and for the Alliance, this means 20 schools in operation, up two from last year with the opening of College-Ready High School #11 and College-Ready Middle School #7. That's a total of 12 High Schools and 6 Middle Schools, which translates into one of the busiest times of year. Even though all continuing schools had summer bridge programs and summer session credit recovery for those students who need it most, there is an air of renewal in the coming September air. The future for Alliance schools looks busier - and brighter - than ever.

Alliance Wins i3 Grant
Good News from Uncle Sam

LOS ANGELES (August 6, 2010) -

Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, a network of Los Angeles charter schools, has been selected as one of just 49 winners of a highly competitive educational innovation program that drew nearly 1,700 applications nationwide.

As a highest-rated application in the U.S. Department of Education's Investing in Innovation Fund (i3) competition, the Alliance is on track to receive a $5 million federal grant. Of 221 California applications submitted to the $650 million competition, the Alliance was one of just nine winners.

"We are thrilled that the Alliance has this prestigious honor, awarded to just 3% of applicants nationwide," said Judy Burton, President and CEO of Alliance College-Ready Public Schools. "The $5 million grant for our innovative CollegeYES program will help unlock the power of technology in teaching and learning, and further support students and families in planning a pathway to college and to careers."
