News from Alliance College-Ready Public SchoolsEvery student has the ability. We give them the opportunity.June 2010

Pomp and Circumstance
As of May, 95% of the 647 seniors graduating from Alliance
schools have been admitted to colleges throughout the United States.
"This is the most exciting time of the year but also the busiest for our
high school counselors," said Nicole Mariella, Director of College
Counseling. "Students need help prioritizing their choices and assessing
their financial packages. College counselors should be very proud of the work
they are doing right now." This year Alliance celebrates some pretty big firsts - the
first acceptance letters from Yale and Harvard and first acceptances as part of the POSSE Foundation, which awards
four-year, full-tuition scholarships to students identified as potential
leaders. The two Alliance students to receive POSSE scholarships are Jessica Jara of Huntington Park College-Ready Academy High School and Joshua Majano of Dr. Olga Mohan College-Ready Academy High School #11. In addition, the nation's largest minority scholarship
program, the Gates Millennium Scholars Program, has awarded
good-through-graduation college scholarships to three Alliance students, part
of this year's cohort of 1,000 students - Diana Castro of Gertz-Ressler High School, Ofelia Carrillo of Marc and
Eva Stern Math & Science HS, and Jessie Ruiz of Huntington Park
College-Ready Academy.
The Class of 2010 Gates Millennium Scholars represents 45
states, the District of Columbia and three U.S. territories. The scholarships
can be used to pursue degrees in any undergraduate major at the college or
university of the recipients' choice. Best wishes to the future Alliance class
of 2014! |
