Director's News |
It's been a busy few months at Friends of Recovery- Vermont! We have embarked on a new project focused on educating the recovery community and providers about health reform! Two new SAMHSA initiatives with BRSS TACS (Bringing Recovery Services to Scale Technical Assistance Centers) are underway with involvement from the VT Department of Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs, the Department of Mental Health, the Blueprint for Health at DVHA, as well as peer recovery organizations including FOR-VT, the Vermont Recovery Network, Another Way and the VT Psychiatric Survivors.
In April, a team of twelve attended the BRSS TACS Policy Academy in Reston VA (see photo) where we met folks from seven other state projects, worked with the BRSS TACS Technical Assistance team, and began to create a plan for "bringing peer recovery support services to scale" in Vermont! A workgroup has also begun a concurrent planning process for the VPS and FOR-VT Peer Health Reform Education project which will use listserve, blogs, newsletter articles, webinars to promote awareness and involvement of the recovery community in health reform. This work will lead to a Peer Leadership Training Institute in August and a Community Listening Forum on health reform in September during National Recovery Month.
