Recovery Month 2010 logo                          Recovery Month 2010

It was an exciting Recovery Month 2010, with recovery celebrations happening throughout Vermont including our Recovery Month 2010 event: the 1st Annual Vermont Soberfest, the NAMI-VT Walk, Kingdom Recovery Center's march and candlelight vigil, the FAR Bike Ride and much more.  Thank you to all who participated, for coming  out in support of long-term recovery!
A&E Interventionists
Nancy Philly walkA&E Philly Walk
This year, Nancy Bassett (Kingdom Recovery Center, FOR-VT Advisory Board, VRN) was nominated and selected to represent Vermont as a delegate at the Pro-Act Recovery Walk in Philadelphia, PA, which took place on September 25, 2010.  Here is Nancy's account of her experience:

"It was a distinct honor for me to be selected as A&E TV's 2010 Vermont delegate to attend the 9th annual Pro-Act Recovery Walk in Philadelphia, PA on September 25. Along with the other delegates from each state, we led the walk through historic Philadelphia with other 'honor guards', wearing purple sashes showing that each person was celebrating 10 or more years in recovery. Pat Taylor, the director of Faces & Voices of Recovery, noted author & advocate for recovery, Bill White and Candy & Drew, the interventionists from A&E's show 'Intervention', were but some of the great number of honor guards leading the parade of 11,000 people celebrating & advocating for recovery.

It was truly exciting to be able to travel to Philadelphia & take part in this celebration of recovery! I was able to meet Bill White, who has written a number of books & articles that I have read in the past, and I had my picture taken with Candy, the interventionist. But even more exciting for me, was to be able to meet & talk to all of the other delegates who were selected to represent their state.  Margaret Drew, who is my co-coordinator at the Kingdom Recovery Center in St. Johnsbury was able to travel to Philadelphia with me. We had an unforgettable weekend!"

Beyond Drug Courts: Creating a Criminal Justice Capable System of Care Using Evidence-based Dispositions
Dr. Douglas Marlowe will discuss selecting evidence-based dispositions that can "optimally balance the
'three jealous and conflicting masters' of cost, public safety and the psychological impacts on offenders. The
goal is to choose the disposition in each case that presents the least objectionable risk to recidivism, the greatest likelihood of improving the welfare of the offender and can do so at the least cost to the taxpayers.
