The purpose of this training is to increase awareness of the need to assess participation in gaming activities in a client's history, introduction to assessment tools, educational materials and methods to address how a client's participation in gaming activities may have a negative influence in their recovery process. The presenter will discuss her experiences incorporating screening tools and educational groups into an existing substance abuse/mental health program.
About the presenter...
Joy Mitchell has 33 years experience working in the addiction field, including 15 years with problem gambling, in a variety of settings. She is the founder and current Executive Director of the Vermont Council on Problem Gambling, a Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor (CCGC), a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC) and has a Masters Degree in Intercultural Relations.
Ms. Mitchell is active in many statewide groups including the VT Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Council for the VT Department of Health, the VT College Alcohol Network for college campus counselors, the VT Coalition for Substance Abuse seeking to influence legislation and the Coalition for Substance Abuse and Older Vermonters. She also manages to stay active in her community as a member of the Greater Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Bellows Falls Rotary Club.
Registration Fee: $65 per person ($35 for FOR-VT members) (Scholarships available for peer service providers - call for details). Morning refreshments included. Lunch on your own.
Target Audience:
Human service, substance abuse, mental health, legal, education, faith based, and medical professionals. Parents, recovery community, peer service providers and all community members.
- 6 CEUs per course offered for LADC, LCMHC, LICSW and Psychologists PENDING APPROVAL.
- All trainings are co-occurring focused (mental health and substance abuse conditions).
