Springfield Turning Point- Transition House
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Host: Springfield Turning Point Location: Turning Point Transition House, 7 Morgan Street Springfield, VT When: Thursday, July 1, 2:00PM Phone: 802-885-4668
The Springfield Turning Point Recovery Center received a miraculous donation last year - a modular home. Knowing the need for transitional housing in our area, we were granted permission to add a lower level to create an 8 bedroom facility - room for 7 Guests and 1 room for the House Managers. The guests will be men & women who are in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. This Transition House is a safe-place for guests to build a foundation for a productive life in recovery. We believe that we are creating the lifelong recovery supports required to help those with addictions to maintain recovery. Please join the Springfield Turning Point Recovery Center supporters, along with Govenor Jim Douglas, for the ribbon cutting ceremony of our community's new Transition House! Thursday, July 1 at 2:00 PM. Refreshments will be served. |
Burlington Turning Point's legislative forum was held Wednesday morning.
Moderator, Peter Malory, asked questions assembled with input from recovery advocates, prevention coalitions, and treatment providers. The 5 Democratic contenders in the governor's race were joined by the 2 independent candidates.
The candidates expressed their views on questions ranging from the importance of funding for recovery supports, to the need for a more integrated substance abuse system and ongoing funding for prevention.
More than 80 people came in during the course of the event, which was transmitted as a live broadcast on WDEV.
There was a story about it on Fox 22 with footage of the event, individual legislator's comments, comments about recovery services being underfunded, and a strong story on a Burlington volunteer who described the center as key to his staying out of jail.
Vermont governor candidates discuss drug issues By Terri Hallenbeck, Free Press Staff Writer · Thursday, June 24, 2010 The five Democratic gubernatorial candidates agreed Wednesday at a forum that the state should spend its money on prevention and treatment of substance abuse rather than locking people up for crimes those problems create, but there were some differences when it came to specifics, such as lowering the drinking age or raising the beer tax.
