| Greetings! |

Welcome to the new format for electronic newsletters from Friends of Recovery- Vermont! Here you will find easy to read updates, articles and resources about recovery advocacy and related recovery programs.
FOR-VT was busy in September celebrating National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month with our 3rd Annual Green Mountain Recovery Walk. It was an enjoyable day with lots of networking, speakers and entertainment. We'd like to especially thank the UVM Juggling Club for their participation! Also, thank you to the many sponsors, walkers and groups collecting pledges to help make this event not only a visible demonstration of long-term recovery, but a productive fundraiser for FOR-VT.
Also in September, the Recovery Voices Count forum in St. Albans brought folks together to meet new people and talk with legislators and government officials about issues important to them. A special thanks to Mayor Marty Manahan for his official proclamation of September as Recovery Month in St. Alban's.
We're building our grassroots recovery advocacy movement one member at a time! Whether your a person in recovery or someone whose family and community is affected by alcohol and drug addiction, thanks for reading! | |

Your Vote Counts! People in recovery are turning out in record numbers to vote in today's election. This is just one important step in bringing voices of recovery into important policy discussions. Next, contact your newly elected Vermont legislators to share your perspectives on prevention, intervention, treatment, enforcement and recovery. Join us for Advocacy 101: A Citizen's Guide to Mental Health and Substance Abuse Advocacy on November 17th or December 17th to brush up on your advocacy skills for the next legislative session! 10 Drug and Alcohol Poliices that Will Save Lives
Join Together and It's partners published this guide to answer the single questions they are asked most: "What actually works to prrevent and reduce alcohol and drug problems?" The ten policies in this guide were developed by groups of national experts and community leaders. They are based on solid scientific evidence, and have broad public support. They make a concise but persuasive case for policy measures that are proven to be effective. There are better ways to prevent alcohol and drug problems than punishing people who have a disease. We hope this guide leads the nation toward effective drug and alcohol policies that will save lives and restore families. Click here for a link to the PDF document on www.JoinTogether.org online. |
