Dear CGS Level I Parent,
The Good Shepherd

The Level I children will listen to and reflect on the parable of the Hidden Treasure.  Parents may want to reflect on some of the Kingdom parables (Mustard Seed, Pearl of Great Price, Hidden Treasure) for their own spiritual nourishment, particularly in this Easter season where we joyfully celebrate the precious gift of Jesus' life and Resurrection and the growth of the Risen Body of Christ throughout the whole world.

We are nearing the end of the catechetical year.  We are now planning for the 2010/2011 catechetical year.  We ask that parents consider whether they can serve as catechists or assistant catechists.  Please talk to Sarah Coles or any catechist to learn more about this very important ministry.  Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a beautiful program, and St. Teresa depends on the help of many committed adults in order to continue to provide such rich spiritual development for our children, our future.

Peace,
The Level I catechist team:
Betsy Peterson, Martha Garcia Barragan on Tues.
Kathy Murdock, Donny Wallenfang on Wed.
Anne Edwards, Sylvia Pelini, Erin Walsh on Thurs.

The Hidden Treasure
Throughout their years in catechesis, the children will listen to and reflect on various parables about the Kingdom of God.  They will receive certain parables again and again, and they will discover deeper and new meaning each time.  The beauty of parables is that they cannot be exhausted.

In Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, the catechist proclaims the Word of God and helps the child reflect on its meaning.  But the catechist does not explain the parable.  It is the joy of the child to discover what meaning is speaking to them each time they hear the story.

The parable of the Hidden Treasure is found in Matthew 13:44:

"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."

In this Easter season, having remembered Jesus' death and burial and celebrated Jesus' Resurrection, how does this parable speak to you today?  What aspect of the Kingdom is God revealing to you now?
Feel free to comment on this information to Lina Hilko, LHilko@aol.com, the editor and/or Sarah Coles, SEColes@gmail.com, St. Teresa's Director of Religious Education.  Thanks!
