French Theater at Princeton University 2008-2009, an evening with the Director
Time:   7:30-9 pm
Place:  The Arts Council of Princeton, 102 Witherspoon St.

L'Atelier, Princeton University's French Theater Workshop, is a theater program that offers students an original combination of linguistic and dramatic training. Based on the "cours d'interprétation" used by the French conservatories, L'Atelier introduces students to acting techniques and allows them to discover the richness of the French dramatic repertoire. Offered exclusively in French, it gives French language students a chance to improve language skills. Students perform a series of productions open to the public every year, including full-length classical and modern plays, staged-readings, and recitals of classical French theater scenes.

Florent Masse, the director of the program and senior lecturer in the Department and Italian, will discuss the history and evolution of L'Atelier over the past years, and will present the exciting offerings for the 2008-2009 season.

testimonialTestimonial
"I have been very pleased with the Immersion courses that the Alliance has offered. I think the immersion courses help me study an aspect of French more thoroughly because of the extended time.

The Writing Immersion course was comprehensive, challenging and stimulating. The extended time of the course enabled me to practice writing and analyzing French composition under the tutelage of a professional journalist.

I found the Grammar Immersion course to be extremely practical and helpful. The teacher was well prepared for questions and her calm approach to dissecting the nuances of French grammar eased any anxieties I may have had in understanding and applying all the exceptions to the rules!!!"

presidentPresident's Letter continued
flag  The Alliance Française de Princeton is now
well into its second year.  Many of you have
participated in our classes, which continue to
go from strength to strength.  Gaelle Goutain,
our Education Coordinator, has been the
driving force behind our classes, along with
our two teachers Caroline and Nathalie.  Most recently we ran a couple of immersion classes for intermediate students, focusing on French grammar.  Both were extremely successful and oversubscribed.  As the next academic year begins in October, we plan to offer more immersion classes, alongside a continuation of our regular beginners and intermediates classes for adults, and of course our very successful children's classes.  Just as we did in 2007 we hope to celebrate the rentrée this coming September with a "Back to School" reception in Princeton where you can sign up for classes, take a placement test, or renew your membership.  Don't forget that there is always a discount for members joining one of our classes.

We have also been busy putting together a calendar of events for 2008 and into 2009.  Full details of our plans are in this e-newsletter.  Our aim is to offer a range of social and cultural events that appeals to a variety of interests.  If there are themes or topics that interest you and which you think might appeal to other members, please let us know.  Events from the Alliance Française de Princeton are typically free for members.

As you know, the Alliance Française de Princeton is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers.  None of the committee members receive any compensation.  So I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you who is on our committee, and to say a very public thank you to them for their dedication and support:

Wendy Jaeger - Vice President
Gaelle Goutain - Education Co-ordinator
John Penrod - Events
Andrea Stine - Membership
Beth Kayros - Treasurer
Pascal Yvon - Communications

Earlier this year we were sorry to say goodbye to Susan Burns, our Treasurer in 2007 and one of the original co-founders of the Alliance.  I am so grateful to Susan for all her hard work in helping get the Alliance going.  Fortunately she is still a member and will continue to support us.  Thanks, Susan!

Once again, we hope you enjoy this e-newsletter.  Please forward it to your friends - it couldn't be easier to spread the word about the Alliance Française!  From all of us at the Alliance Française de Princeton, we thank you for your very generous support of the chapter so far. We look forward to welcoming you to an Alliance event very soon.

Amitiés
