Greetings!
Autum "feels" different from summer, doesn't it? I often hear people say, "Fall is in the air." Indeed, it feels like a time for a fresh start, so I wanted to share a few ideas with you on how you might freshen up your home for this season by switching things up.

One spring a few years ago, I found a lovely satin comforter on sale and did something very bold for me - I bought it, even though I already had a comforter on my bed. Shocking, isn't it? Well, for me at the time, it was rather extravagant. That was my first year to change out my bedding for the season. I removed my heavy "winter" comforter and replaced it with my lovely new satiny topper. In the fall, I switched it back again. Such a small thing, but it gave me joy.
There are other ways to make your home feel fresh and redecorated on a low budget for a new season as well. It's common to do this for Christmas, but why wait until December?

1) Re-accessorize. By switching out just a few items - throw pillows, candles and mantle decoratings, your living room can welcome you once again. Try pulling out a different color or a choose a complimentary color from your major pieces to use as your new accent color.
The chair I'm sitting in |
For instance, this chair in my living room has usually been paired with burgundy accessories since I purchased it seven years ago. Recently I've experimented with pulling out the dark oranges (not too successful with my other furniture), but right now, gold and green pillows look great on my sofa. I believe a new picture over my fireplace is calling my name as well...but probably not this one unfortunately. I might have to buy it for staging anyway! :)

2) For a more major change, switch out your curtain panels with a darker, heavier look for winter. You can even try a new area rug, especially if your main upholstered pieces are a solid or tone-on-tone pattern.

3) Updating your walls with fresh paint is another way to prepare for the holidays, while giving you the opportunity to de-clutter your life and your rooms. Call me for an inexpensive color consultation if you'd like some help.
