I was hosting a holiday cookie party for my neighbors and had to get my house decorated before the event.  There were boxes of decorations stacked up everywhere and, with the party only a few days away, I knew I needed help.  I placed an emergency call to Beth, who fortunately had a  wasted no time springing into action putting her vision in place.  Undaunted by the chaos, she forged ahead.

Creatively and masterfully, she used my decorations and displayed and coordinated them to make our home look festive and fun!   I found her to be punctual, easy to work with, flexible, hard working and creative.  I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to attractively stage their home for sale or for any kind of event.  Please do not hesitate to call me for further affirmation of her services.

Five Holiday Decorating Tips

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and then it's full-bore into Christmas?    If you have decorated for  fall, your home is probably ready for Thanksgiving anyway, so I'll skip on to some "Day-After-Thanksgiving-Decorating tips (after you've shopped till you dropped or the crowds get too thick).   Actually, it's rare that I start that early, but whenever you decorate, here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

1)      Don't forget the entry.  Starting with your front porch & door, pull visitors and family in with at least a hint of holiday outside.  Wreaths, live greenery, potpourri, warm rugs, or a small tree all say "Welcome."

Staircases can be highlighted with mini-trees, potted poinsettias (real or fake),
small wreaths or stockings hung every few balusters.

Use plastic ties or coated floral wire to keep garland in place.  You could even wrap small boxes and line them up the stairs - a great way to bring in color in a neutral space.

2)       Dining Room:  This is a great time to do a mini-update with a lovely tablecloth, a centerpiece, and new napkins & rings.

If upholstery is stained, update with new fabric or slipcovers.   A thick red ribbon looks gorgeous on white slipcovers with a bit of hanging greenery and a pine cone at the tie in the back.

Use whatever you have first - and only buy what you need.

Votive candles tucked around garland make an inexpensive low centerpiece, as does a 3 pillar candle set of varying heights on a round platter (cake platter works well).   Decorate the base with greenery, rocks, tea lights, apples, etc.

3)       Holidays aromas help get us in the
Christmas mood.

Vanilla pods in the fireplace, scented candles burning in the bathroom & kitchen (my favorites are Yankee Candles), or hang clove oranges (I remember making those as a kid).

Of course, baking pies or simmering spices is always good!

Natural boughs (surplus where trees are sold) add another layer of scent and beauty.

4)      For a fireplace, mantles are the traditional "play-it-up" space.

Try adding pine cones (spray painted or natural), orange Clementines and cinnamon sticks to bring nature inside (and smell good!).

If you have a pepper tree, the lacy leaves are beautiful hanging over the edge as well.
Candles, small Christmas lights, snowmen (hide small boxes underneath the "snow" if you need to vary their heights), greenery..... the possibilities are limitless.

5)     Dress up your windows that can be seen from the street.

Christmas trees are gorgeous from the outside, but you can also hang wreaths, place hurricane lamps on deep windowsills (watch fire danger ), and outline windows with lights and/or beads.

How about stringing some icicles from the top to dangle down?

TJ Maxx's Home Goods store has a lot of beautiful Christmas decorations available.

Remember that what goes up, must come down, so unless you don't mind spending many hours packing up, keep it simple!
