Greetings!
With the holidays quickly coming upon us, have you considered what you can do to spruce up your home quickly and inexpensively?
Perhaps you have relatives coming to visit, or you just need a "sanctuary" away from the hustle and bustle, the noise and distractions.
Here are a few ideas to get you started with first things first:
1) Create a "quiet" spot to get rejuvenated.
Do you have a comfy chair that you can curl up in to read for a few moments? You just need a lamp, something to put your feet up on, perhaps a luxurious throw for those cool mornings & evenings, and some soft music playing.
My favorite place to do this is actually in my bathtub (without the throw, of course!). Then I feel like I'm multi-tasking while I give myself time to read a good book.
HOT TIP: To keep the water warmer far longer, start running your bath with only hot water. This warms up the porcelain and it will retain heat longer. Then add cool water as needed.
2)
Carve out some time.
This is always the catch, isn't it? With lists looming large, how do you find even 20-30 minutes to get away? Discipline! Put it on your list. Realize that there will never be a time when "everything is done." Value yourself and your sanity enough to take care of yourself. You'll be a better spouse, parent, friend and co-worker if you are more relaxed.
Now back to your house......
While you may not want to tackle any major projects like painting or new countertops right now, you can make a tremendous difference by just updating your accessories and artwork. Simple items such as new towels & bedding can bring freshness and sparkle to your bedroom & bath!
If you rearrange your furniture for your Christmas tree or for parties, use that as an opportunity to experiment with new arrangements that provide for better traffic flow year-round. You can buy "sliders" at Linens-N-Things or Walmart to put under your furniture - with just a push you can move it easily.
Try to arrange a seating group around your focal point in the living areas. Two sofas can even face each other to set the stage for good conversation. Watch out for "screaming distances" in your conversation areas. Each seat should also be able to set a glass down on a table comfortably.
Need some help?
We can do an inexpensive consultation in 1-2 hours, walking through your home, discussing options & changes you might employ.
If you need more assistance, schedule half or whole-day services to make significant changes. This is typically called "ReDesign" or "Decorating in a Day."
Shopping services are also available, as well as holiday decorating using your own supplies or new purchases.
Please give me a call or drop me an email. I'm happy to assist you at whatever level you need.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving,
Beth Lester
