Good Design is
Good Business.
"For those of us who make our living from it, the value of GOOD DESIGN is sort of a self-evident truth, like 'all men are created equal.' There are a few companies that see GOOD DESIGN as a central pillar of their business strategy. Their products are clean and uncluttered. Their ads are usually straightforward and effective. Their trademarks are frequently contemporary. The buildings they inhabit are often distinguished.

Probably the most powerful use of GOOD DESIGN occurs when a company uses it to separate itself, its products, and its services from the competition.
DESIGN is a marketing tool that can make your company, products and services distinctive. DESIGN is a manifestation of excellence that is visible. Over time, DESIGN will encourage superior performance across the board. DESIGN makes an important contribution to improving the quality of our culture. GOOD DESIGN makes many of us feel good.

What is Mindful Marketing?
Mindfulness:
An in-the-moment, acute awareness
of the pursuit of excellence.

Marketing:
Making a positive connection with your consumer.

Mindful Marketing:
A New Way of Thinking About a
New Way of Marketing . . .

· OFFER a product or service that "serves" your consumer
· BELIEVE in your product or service
· BUILD a business based upon trust, honesty and integrity
· SHOUT your story from the top of every tree you encounter
(Stir every pot, connect at every networking event, etc.)

· CREATE positive relationships and rapport with your
       clients and prospects

· FOCUS on being of service in the present moment
· GIVE more than your consumer expects
· FOLLOW THROUGH on your commitments
       (to self and others)

· WATCH your business grow

Mindful Marketing in Uncertain Times
In our "current economy", we learn to rely upon our instinct, our relationships and our "hutzpah".

I was recently referred to a white paper, "How to Thrive in a Changing Business World", written by motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins. It talks about how we can use our BRAND to position our businesses in a positive light, and it talks about some of the things we can do to be more mindful while amidst the "Paradox of Uncertainty".

Why Do I Need a "BRAND"?
Branding Iron Everyone is talking about BRAND. Just exactly what DOES that mean?!

Your BRAND is your promise, your handshake, your reputation, your "method of operation". Your BRAND sets you apart from your competition.

How do your clients describe you and your business?

The American Marketing Association describes a BRAND as a "name, term, sign, symbol or design, or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from their competition." Your BRAND is the source of your promise to your consumer.

What is your BRAND PROMISE?

Do you leave a positive or a negative BRAND impression?

Graphic File Formats:
JPG? PDF? PNG? AI?

Is this a foreign language?
No, not really. But, it IS important to know when you need which graphic file format, and why not all formats will work best for every purpose.

We develop many new logos for our clients and their products, and upon completion, we always provide our clients with a master CD of their logo in a variety of formats:

Graphic File Formats
.AI - Your original vector art file (Adobe Illustrator).
.EPS - Primarily used for printing and high-resolution needs.
Also good for embroidery and screenprinting uses
.PSD - Photo Shop file, (300dpi/CMYK)
.JPG (High Res, 300dpi) - some printing purposes;
works best with Microsoft Office (RGB)
.JPG (Low Res, 72dpi) - web uses (RGB)
.PNG (150dpi) - web uses; transparent background (RGB)
.PDF - cross-platform generic format

The next time someone asks you for a specific file format, and you have no idea what they are asking for - give us a call - we can help you with that!

Is DPI "dippy"?
OR . . . Why is DPI so important?

DPI stands for DOTS PER INCH found with a magnifier on a photograph. The more dots per inch you have in a photo, the higher the quality.

Quite often, we request a photograph (head shot) of our clients to incorporate into marketing materials. Invariably, they ask us to "copy it off of our website".

QUICK vs. QUALITY
That's good in theory - and quick - but NOT GOOD for printing purposes. The dpi used on the web is typically 72dpi. For printed marketing materials, we request a minimum of 300dpi - some printing companies are now even asking for 600dpi. Granted, copying a photograph from your website may be QUICK, but our intent is to provide a QUALITY product.

Our job is to make YOU LOOK GOOD
If you try to print a 72dpi (lo-res) photo, it will come out grainy and difficult to see - not a good image to use as a first impression of yourself. We want you to look good in all media - web AND print. So, when someone asks you to forward them a photograph (perhaps even the media?!), remember to forward an original high-resolution photo - or give us a call and we'll take care of that for you!
