MISSION CORNER

BE IN PRAYER FOR SENEGAL

Below is the statement that our SIL (Wycliffe Bible Translators - over seas) director said we could send to our prayer partners:

"Please join us in prayer for the country of Senegal. This past week President Wade introduced a new bill of law to the parliament which would allow a vice-president to be elected at the same time as the presi-dent in February 2012. A presidential candidate could also be declared the winner with only 25% of the votes cast in the first round. Many citi-zens were very unhappy with this possibility believing that he was groom-ing his son for the vice-president position and that he was trying to en-sure a win on the first round of voting. There have been widespread demonstrations and violence the last couple of days and the President eventually retracted the bill completely. Some citizens are calling for his resignation and there is still the possibility of unrest over the next few days and in the months leading up to the elections.

The condition has escalated. As of June 29, seven churches have been burned to the ground and pastors beaten. D.O.N.E. building has not been attacked. Bishop Ba and the Catholic Cardinal are to speak on national TV on Friday."
