Free Prostate Cancer Screening at Advocate Condell Medical Center
Advocate Condell Medical Center will offer a free prostate cancer screening on September 22 from 3:30-6:30pm at Advocate Condell Medical Center, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
The screening is recommended for men age 50 and older, but men who are African American or have a family history of prostate cancer should begin testing at age 40.
Participants must provide the name and address of a physician who should receive the blood test results. To locate a physician or schedule an appointment for the free screening, call Advocate Health Advisor at 800-3-ADVOCATE. (1-800-323-8622)
According to the National Cancer Institute, except for skin cancer, cancer of the prostate is the most common cancer in American men. More than 186,000 men in the United States were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008. Genetic factors appear to play a role in prostate cancer development, particularly among families in which the diagnosis is made in men under age 60. The risk of prostate cancer rises with the number of close relatives who have the disease. |
