Route 53 is a huge issue for our County. I will be representing Lake County this Thursday at a Public Meeting on Route 53.

The following are general lists of materials/items that are acceptable and not acceptable at our household chemical waste collections.


 
Materials ACCEPTED at HCW Collections:

·         Aerosol Products

·         Antifreeze

·         Asbestos

·         Batteries:  Rechargeable (NI-CAD), Lithium and Metal Hydride Batteries (NO ALKALINE or LEAD-ACID)

·         Drain Cleaners

·         Driveway Sealers

·         Fertilizers, Herbicides 

·         Fluorescent Lights and CFL's (compact fluorescent bulbs)

·         Fungicides

·         Furniture Strippers and Varnishes

·         Garden and Lawn Chemicals

·         Gasoline

·         Hobby Chemicals

·         Household Cleaners

·         Insecticides and Pesticides

·         Mercury (including thermometers and thermostats)

·         Metal Polishes

·         Motor Oil

·         Oil-based Paints

·         Paint Removers

·         Pool Chemicals

·         Prescription Drugs (for People and Pets), Over-the Counter Medicines and Supplements (NO DEA CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES - see below)

·         Personal Care Products (including cosmetics, skin-care products, shampoos, nail polish and remover, etc.)

·         Solvents

·         Latex Paint

·         Medical Wastes

·         Sharps/Needles

·         Smoke Detectors

Mortgage Programs You Can Feel Good About: Homebuyers can receive up to $50,000 in no/low- interest loans toward their mortgage to help lower their monthly payments and boost their purchasing power.  AHC supports buyers throughout the complex purchase process and helps insure they are getting the best financing terms possible in today's tough credit market.

Home Improvement Programs: Homeowners receive up to $75,000 in no/low-interest loans and grants, along with technical assistance to insure quality work done by reputable contractors at a fair price.

Homebuyer Education & Counseling:  Helps buyers navigate the complex home purchase process, overcome credit and debt issues, and prepare to be a successful and responsible homeowner.

Foreclosure Prevention Services:  Education classes, individual counseling and (where appropriate) intervention with the mortgage lender provide practical guidance for those behind on their mortgage payments.

Free Medical Services from Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital's CareCoach
 CareCoach
 
CareCoach takes its free health services and educational programs on the road to 22 community sites each month. Services provided a registered nurse include:
  • Cholesterol screenings
  • Blood pressure screenings
  • Diabetes screenings
  • BMI screenings
  • Waist measurement screenings
  • Tobacco cessation services
  • Counseling with a registered nurse
  • Immunizations
  • Referrals to a physician, if needed
 
Prescription Drug Card
 
County residents can take advantage of a prescription drug discount card program.  The free card that is accepted at most pharmacies offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.  This is intended for people without prescription coverage or on medicines not covered by your plan.  The card may also be used where accepted to fill prescriptions for pets.
