New Upland Property

We have acquired some new upland hunting property! This hunting paradise is approximately 7 miles  east of the lodge. The terrain

Borrowman Farm

is rolling grassland with milo food plots divided up by thin timber strips. Accessing the property is very easy. With 240 acres of open native grasses this is going to be fun to hunt this year. I have spent some time going over this property and have come across a lot of quail. It seems every place you go on the farm you see quail or hear them. This new property has  me excited for this upcoming hunting season! Make plans to come hunt this area and chase some birds around with me . For more information on our upland hunts Click Here
DOG NEWS

Now that hunting season is here it is very important that your dog is exercised regularly.  If you are  like me you are getting your Shorthair

dogs in condition for the busy season. Make sure you have plenty of water with you when you are out in the field for your dog and yourself. I also put out a tub of water so my dogs can get in it and cool off. There are products out like the chilly buddy that is a cooling jacket for dogs that is used to  lower coat temperatures and protection from the sun. The main  thing is to be safe and don't over do it.

UPLAND HUNTS
EUROPEAN STYLE PHEASANT HUNT

Since Harpole's Heartland Lodge opened for upland hunting in 1995, the number of upland hunts has increased greatly.  In the 1999 upland season, we introduced European Style Driven Pheasant Shoots.  These special days of uniquely presented birds offer shooters an experience found only in Europe until they were introduced in the United States.

James P. Sterba, Staff Reporter of the Wall Street Journal experienced one of our shoots and wrote: "11 shooters were positioned beside hay bales 30 yards apart on the lower slopes of an oak-dotted hillside and the whistle blows.  Within seconds a pheasant breaks high over the trees on the left.  Three guns open up, missing and the bird glides unharmed into the brush behind.  Soon guns are booming all along the line as more ringed-necks sail overhead.  Some are hit and thump to earth.  Most aren't and don't."

You'll find the experience exhilarating - the roosters' raucous cackles mixed with gun blasts and shouting gunners.  This is a wonderful spectacle and a challenging shoot, even for the best gunners.
