Dear Families and Supporters:

It's a New Year and a new form of delivery for our quarterly newsletter!  At Angel's Pediatric Heart House we are always looking for efficient and cost effective ways to deliver information, programs and services.  Increasingly, email has become a more cost-effective way in which organizations such as APHH can communicate with its stakeholders.  With the cost of a standard stamp, printing, and paper on the rise, we have decided to use email as our primary delivery system of our newsletter, notifications and invitations to social events.  Of course, we realize that not everyone has Internet access; therefore, if we do not have an active email address for you, you will continue to receive a hard copy of all mailings.

With this new format you can confirm whether or not you wish to continue receiving our newsletter or other notifications.  If you prefer to receive information from APHH by regular mail, please notify us immediately of your preference.  In addition, you have the ability to forward and share information about Angel's Pediatric Heart House and how we impact the congenital heart defects community with your friends, family and co-workers.

Your feedback on our quarterly newsletter email is welcome!  Remember, when you receive an email from APHH, don't wait to open it, as you might be missing out on important information or a special invitation.  Also, if your home address, email address or telephone number have changed, please contact us with your new information.

Regards,

Sonia Perez

2008 Annual Picnic

Wow, what an amazing turnout!  (To view photos from the picnic, click on the link above.)  This was our 7th annual picnic and each year it gets bigger and better!  It was great to see familiar faces and to welcome new APHH members.  Families enjoyed a host of activities such as the bounce house, a toddler play area (new this year), music, raffle prizes, games and shopping.  I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching the children picking out free toys, games and costumes from the "shopping area" (a new activity added to this year's picnic).  It was like Christmas all over again!  Pam from Ft. Lauderdale shared, "It was so much fun and the girls had the time of their lives!  They love the bounce house, the snow cones, cotton candy, all the activities and of course the shopping...Mommy loved meeting up with old friends, making new friends and even finding someone else whose son has the same deletion as Madison."  Although some rain fell upon us, it actually turned out to be great because all the families huddled under the pavilion and shared their personal stories with everyone.  I am truly inspired by your courage, strength and faith.

Of course, there are always people behind the scenes that we have to thank.  A great thank you goes out to the Disney Store at the Broward Mall for their partnership through Gifts In-Kind International for donating items for our families; Empire Pizza Cafe for once again catering our picnic and providing us with delicious food, great service and two gift certificates for our raffle; Cindy Teeto of Birthdays with a Beat for the bounce house, toddler play area, snow cones, cotton candy, music and fun activities; and our dedicated volunteers and volunteer coordinator, Valerie Clark.

CHD Awareness Week

CHD Awareness Week Proclamation Presentation, Cooper City

Angel's Pediatric Heart House is committed to promoting and increasing public awareness in the South Florida community.  Proclamations recognizing February 7-14, 2008 as CHD Awareness Week were presented to APHH from various cities throughout the South Florida community.  We must go out into our communities and raise awareness through these types of opportunities.  We would like to thank the following cities and their mayors for recognizing and participating in this year's CHD awareness week:

Cooper City, Coconut Creek, Lauderhill, Hollywood, Weston, North Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Lighthouse Point, North Palm Beach, Pembroke Pines, Margate, Tamarac, Boynton Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Aventura, Hallendale Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Pembroke Park and Bay Harbor Islands.

My deepest gratitude and appreciation goes out to our volunteer, Susan Juster of Cooper City, for taking on this daunting task of writing letters to the mayors and following up with telephone calls.  Thanks Susan!

ATTENTION APHH Members !!! Formation of Member Focus Group

In our efforts to better serve our families, APHH is inviting six families (one parent from each household) to attend a one-time evening focus group to discuss issues and challenges that affect our members.  This  focus group will assist APHH in better identifying the emotional and social needs of CHD families, so that we can continue to develop programs and services that are relevant and necessary to APHH families.

If you are interested in participating in the focus group, please contact us to discuss dates and times.

We value your participation and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
