A Ride Along the Lincoln Highway
New PBS program on America's first coast to coast highway
Rick Sebak, WQED Pittsburgh and 2007 recipient of Preservation Pennsylvania's F. Otto Haas Award has been very busy the last year working on a documentary on American's first coast to coast highway - The Lincoln Highway. His new show, "A Ride on the Lincoln Highway," premiered nationally on PBS stations everywhere on Wednesday, October 29.
Preservation Pennsylvania Executive Director, Mindy Crawford, was interviewed for this documentary and appears in the final version at the Shoe House in Hellam, York County. Mindy also serves as the Pennsylvania Director of the Lincoln Highway Association, a national organization that promotes appreciation of the historic road.
At the Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Awards program last year, Rick had just returned from his first trip across the Lincoln Highway. You can visit his blog to read about both of his trips along the historic highway. During Rick's two adventures across the Lincoln Highway, he captured many more stories than he could include in his 56 minute production. In fact, shortly after he finished, he noted that they had about 90 45-minute tapes to edit down into about an hour! Check out your local PBS station for listings of when the show will be rebroadcast. If you just can't wait, you can see some of the stories Rick wasn't able to include in the final version including a bit more of Mindy's interview. |

Pennsylvania At Risk 2008
On Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:00 AM Preservation Pennsylvania will announce the 2008 Pennsylvania At Risk list on the Walnut Street Bridge in downtown Harrisburg. The event is open to the public and will be held rain or shine. Preservation Pennsylvania listed the Walnut Street Bridge on the Pennsylvania At Risk in 1996 and now returns to the rehabilitated bridge to announce this year's list of endangered properties. Pennsylvania At Risk serves as a representative sampling of the Commonwealth's most endangered historic resources. For the purpose of the list, endangerment is defined as threat of demolition, significant deterioration, vandalism, alteration, and/or loss of context. It is our belief that publishing this list draws statewide attention to the plight of Pennsylvania's historic resources, promotes local action to protect resources, and encourages additional state funding for historic sites. Immediately following the public announcement of the 2008 Pennsylvania At Risk, Preservation Pennsylvania members will receive a newsletter with detailed descriptions of the endangered properties. To become a member of Preservation Pennsylvania or to view past Pennsylvania At Risk newsletters, visit www.preservationpa.org
