 FOR TEACHERS
Walker Creek Families,

The Fun Run committee is preparing for our 3rd annual Fun Run and we need your help. One big part of the Fun Run is the t-shirts that each of the scholars will receive at no cost to them. The t-shirts allow the kids to keep track of how many laps they have run during the Fun Run.  To offset the cost of the shirts we need sponsors.  If you work for a company or own your own business and would be willing to help sponsor our Fun Run t-shirts, we will help advertise your business. A donation of $100 or more guarantees your company logo on the back of our t-shirt.   Remember your donation is tax deductable!

Please print and then fill out the information below and return it to the school office along with your company logo.  For more information please call the office.

Books make wonderful gifts and rewards.
PTA Programs
This year our PTA programs will be a little different from the past years.  We have so many talented "scholars" in our school that it's hard to showcase all of them at the Talent Show we traditionally have in the spring.  Certain grades will come together and present a Talent Show, as well as performing scripted programs that our Music Teacher, Ms. Morrison, oversees.  You will enjoy seeing the talents and abilities our students possess. October's PTA meeting will have second and third graders performing on Tuesday, October 20th.  We hope to see everyone there.

Coyote Moon Dance and Auction, October 30, 7:00 pm

Let someone else do the cooking for you!!!

Birdville High School's class of 2010 would love to have the support of the future Hawk families!  Just eat dinner at (or take it to go) the following restaurants and 10% - 15% of your bill will go toward Project Celebration.  Project Celebration is the all-night, after-prom party at BHS.  It's an awesome experience and keeps the students safe.

Just write BHS Project Celebration on the back of your receipt and give it to your waitress or cashier.  It's that easy and you get the night off from cooking!!!

Thanks for your support!  BHS loves future Mighty Hawks!!!

United Way

Our United Way Campaign will begin next week.  We want to encourage our students to take part in this charitable event.  We will have lots of fun incentives to encourage them to donate.  Please allow your child to participate in this worthy endeavor.
Parade Extravaganza

Walker Creek had a fantastic float in Birdville High School's Homecoming Parade.  Some of our students were allowed to walk along side the float and participate in the parade.  The high school had a carnival and a pep rally that all enjoyed.  We were awarded "Most Creative" float in the competition.  We want to have more students participate next year.   This is so much fun for our FUTURE HAWKS!

How to Keep our kids safe when using the internet.

Many people, including children, have access to the internet. Here are some tips to keep your kids safe:

Monitor Child--Make sure your computer is located in a place easy for you to monitor.

Forbid Cyber Bullying which is kids using technology to create or send inappropriate comments, lies and embarrassing photos on the internet. Nothing crushes kids more than public humiliation sent instantly to everyone they know.

Set Expectations--Give your kids a code of conduct. Let them know what they can and can't do on the computer.  Explain that if they wouldn't say it to someone's face they shouldn't text it or post it.

Be deligient if your child does MySpace or Face Book.  Be sure they use appropriate screen names.  Make sure they do not approve as their friend anyone that they do not know.

Explain the tricks predators use to gain trust and get information from your child.

Sign a Netsmatz pledge with your child which encourages him/her to never meet someone from online who they do not know.

Tips for Elementary-school-aged Kids
  • Limit online socializing.
  • Let kids know that hurtful behavior still hurts in cyberspace.
  • Explain the correct cyber behavior.
  • Make sure your kids know to never give their passwords to their friends.
