Greetings!
FIELD DAY - MAY 25
Due to the ice day on January 28, 2009 students must attend school on the previously scheduled Memorial Day Holiday, Monday, May 25. If you have to be at school, it might as well be a special day! So, we are having our annual Field Day. Kindergarten, first and second graders will participate in Field Day in the morning and third, fourth and fifth graders will compete in the afternoon.
For Field Day to be safe and super-fun, we need volunteers to help run the events. Of course, we know you would like to be able to watch your child/children participate. But, could you watch at one child's time and help at the other time? Then next year you can flip/flop which child you watch. This is one of those special days that wouldn't happen without the help of our parents. Hopefully, with field day being on a National Holiday, more parents than usual will be off work and there will be plenty of parents to help. Please e-mail Mrs. Wilkey at carla_wilkey@birdville.k12.tx.us to volunteer. Specify whether you want to work morning or afternoon. We really need YOU!
Then, come to the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on that same day, Monday, May 25. Since you will already be here, let us provide your lunch as a Thank You for all you do for our kids. This will be very informal and a chance to visit and relax between sessions. Just come to the library after the morning events.
Thank you in advance,
Marta White
Principal

TAKS Testing
Once again our third, fourth and fifth graders will be testing the last week of April. Since all students will be taking different subjects, on different days, we are asking that guidelines be followed the whole week. This includes: plenty of sleep, a good breakfast, positive comments, as well as refraining from bringing cell phones if possible. Your child's teacher will keep you informed of the actual day/days your child is testing and what is needed. |
Spring is the time of year when the majority of our field trips are taken. Several grade levels have been or plan to attend the Earth Movie. The Fort Worth Zoo is a popular destination. Through the generosity of our PTA we have been able to do more field trips this year without asking for so much money from the parents. We appreciate PTA's willingness to put funds they earn toward enriching our students' education. |
Teacher of the Year Congratulations to our first grade teacher, Stepfanie Romero. Mrs. Romero is Walker Creek's Teacher of Year for 2009. She will be honored at the Birdville ISD's Golden Gala on Thursday, May 7. We are so proud of Mrs. Romero and know she will represent our school well. Congratulations, Mrs. Romero! |
Talent Show Tryouts
Our annual Talent Show is scheduled for Tuesday evening, May 19th. Students who would like to be a part of this production will be asked to audition after school on Tuesday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 6. Please have your routine ready to go and costumes in mind. All lyrics and dance moves must be appropriate for elementary school students to hear/view. |
Project Celebration @ BHS Walker Creek's student body will travel to Birdville High School on Friday, May 8, to deliver letters written by our students to the seniors. These letters will encourage those students attending the high school prom and graduation to stay drug and alcohol free. This is a very special time for both our students and the high school students. Approved volunteers are needed to walk with us to the high school. Let your child's teacher know if you are available. |
Celebration of Kids
Students who have had perfect attendance, all A's or all A's & B's for the fifth six weeks will be honored at the Celebration of Kids on Wednesday, May 13th . Third, fourth and fifth graders' assembly will be at 8:45. Kindergarten, first and second graders will celebrate at 9:30. Students entering the Circle of Courage will be honored at this time also.
Those students who achieved these milestones for the entire year will be recognized at our Year-End Celebration of Kids on May 26. |

| Box Tops for Education
One of the easiest ways to help your child's school is to save Box Tops for Education coupons off items you buy in the grocery store. We recently submitted Box Tops in the amount of $800. This will be used for items for the school. You can cut The Box Top for Education Coupons off and put them in a zip lock bag and then just send them to the school office. Many of the coupons expire in June 2009. We would like to send in the final shipment to Box Tops for Education by May 22. Thank you for your help. |
