Volunteer Appreciation

All volunteers are invitied to enjoy a light lunch during the Fun Run on Friday, November 7th.  We will have lunch set up for you by 11:50 and you are welcome to eat and enjoy visiting with other volunteers in the school library.  This is to show, in a small way, how very much we appreciate all you do for our students and staff at WCE.
HEATH SCREENINGS

Health screenings were performed at Walker Creek on October 14th for all students in kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade.  Students in 2nd and 4th grade that are new to BISD were screened as well.  You may see your child's results in family access under the health section.  If you see that your child failed a screening they will be re-screened over the next few weeks.  If they fail their second screening you will receive a referral letter which will contain the results of both screenings.  If you receive a referral letter please take your child for further evaluation and notify the nurse of the results.  If you choose not to take your child for further evaluation please sign the waiver section of the referral and return to the nurse's office.  If you have any questions please feel free to call or email. Coyote Moon Dance Big Success

Our PTA's Coyote Moon Dance was a huge success.  The kids had so much fun and the baskets were absolutely fabulous.  The proceeds exceeded last year's.  Thanks to the many, many volunteers who put in hours getting donations, making the baskets, selling tickets, decorating and making this evening the huge success it was.  Please log your volunteer hours by e-mailing Lakeesha Joe lnjoe@sbcglobal.net.
United Way

WCE students are so awesome!  They raised over $1500 for United Way.  This helps people in our community have a better life.  They were rewarded on Wednesday by having Walker Coyote visit the classes who met their goal and those students  received Walker Creek Coyote Temporary Tattoos.  We are so proud of our students and the parents giving attitude.
Christmas Provider - Canned Food Drive

Walker Creek Elementary will be participating in the Christmas Providers canned food drive which will be from November 10th until November 14th.  Christmas Providers is a charitable organization that serves the families in Birdville and HEB ISD to provide Christmas dinner and presents for families experiencing difficult times. This year we are competing with W.A. Porter Elementary to see who can donate the most cans.  If Walker Creek wins we will get to keep Porter's mascot for a week.  If W.A. Porter wins Walker will have to go to their school to be on their announcements.  We don't want Walker to leave Walker Creek!
Greenery Sale

In order to attend the fifth grade camp in the spring our fifth graders are given the opportunity to sell Christmas Greenery.  The money they earn can go toward their individual fee for camp. If you would like to use live greenery for your holiday decorations, please call the school office or contact a fifth grader.

Time Change for Celebration

Our Celebration of Kids Assembly is where students are honored for making all A's or all A's & B's or having perfect attendance.  The students receiving the honor of Circle of Courage are also recognized in this assembly.  Our next one is on Wednesday, December 3rd.  The time will be switched from previous assemblies.  Grades 3, 4 and 5 will be recognized at 8:45.  Students in grades K, 1 and 2 will be recognized at 9:30.  We plan to keep this new time for the remainder of the year because it will work better with our rotation schedule.
Picture Retakes

Retakes for pictures are also scheduled for Wednesday, December 3rd.  Students who were absent on picture day, those new to our school, or those who were not happy with how their pictures turned out will be photographed after 10:00 that day.
Parent Ed Night

Thank you to Laura Cohen for coordinating the informative presentation by Alicia Jones, Nutritionist.  Handouts are available in the office if you missed this meeting.  Alicia shared many healthy tips and easy snack ideas. Thanks to both of these WCE parents.
Holiday Shop

Holiday Shop is fast approaching.  The Preview Date will be Monday, December 8.  Your children will have the opportunity to shop with their class December 9 - 11.  We will have items like: tools for Dad, picture frames, Hannah Montana goodies and much, much more!  Have your children start saving up now for their shopping spree!  We will need volunteers during this week to help us run the shop.  Look for flyers to come home in the next few weeks.  Contact Becky Levy with any questions...817-605-0825.
