Now that the excitement generated by the flurry of holiday activities has ended and the cold, dreary days of winter have set in, don't let the winter blues get you down. Come to the Library to warm up, brighten up and be enlightened.

Glorious works of art full of vivid, intense color will light up the Library on Tuesday, January 15th and Tuesday January 22nd at 2:00 pm when dynamic art professor Joy Pepe explores the life and works of Van Gogh and Seurat. Professor Pepe's commentary will illuminate the subjects, themes and legacies of these great artists. You don't have to travel through sleet and snow to far-flung distant museums to be inspired by some of the most famous masterpieces of Western art; just visit the Library.

Teens meeting together with our Teen Librarian Chris Angeli in the newly formed Teen Advisory Group will re-energize the Library's services to this age group as they plan exciting new programs and select new DVDs, CDs and books for the Teen collections.  Teens can sign up on the website www.scrantonlibrary.org to join the group and help make the sparks fly.

A whole new series of learning events for children are scheduled for the winter months. Many recent studies have shown that library programs for babies, toddlers and children are not just "warm and fuzzy" but are essential educational programs for developing reading readiness and reading success. Parents are encouraged to register their children for these events. When they do, they will also find a warm circle of other parents and children to join.

Of course the Library staff is always happy to suggest a good book to curl up with beside the fire. Sign up online at the Library's website www.scrantonlibrary.org for our new email newsletter to get all the latest news and to stay in touch.
