Doctors learn more about cardiomyopathy

Medical conference prog 2011Doctors from across the UK and further afield attended the CMA's national medical conference in London last Friday.

The 120 delegates, mostly cardiologists but also some heart failure nurses and genetic counsellors, heard about the latest developments in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy care. The day looked at the use of genetic testing, drug treatments and surgery and new and emerging techniques for managing irregular heart rhythms.

Cardiomyopathy in the news
Heart beatCalls to develop the use of mechanical heart pumps in the UK hit the headlines this month.  Doctors said that because the number of heart transplants is going down, more of the pumps should be given to patients. At the same time in America doctors were reporting that a six-month-old baby given such a pump while waiting for a heart transplant was getting stronger every day and been able to go home two weeks later.
Your support can make a difference

Your donation can help the CMA provide valuable services to families affected by cardiomyopathy

£5 provides three newly diagnosed people with a CD-rom on cardiomyopathy

£20 provides six callers with support from the helpline
£50 runs the website and message board for a week
£100 funds a specialist nurse for a day
£1,000 provides 15 places at a CMA information day
