ParliamentBudget cuts and health reforms could have serious implications for people with cardiomyopathy. To ensure the Government continues to improve services for cardiomyopathy patients, we need your help.  We are looking for patients to join our regional committees to provide us with accurate information about cardiomyopathy services in their areas. Can you help NICE in its work?

NICE usualThe National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is looking for people affected by cardiomyopathy to join two workshops - one looking at issues around internal defibrillators (ICDs) with biventricular pacemakers (London, June 7th) and the other looking at the use of ivabradine for the treatment of heart failure (Manchester, June 27th). London Marathon team raises thousands

Ian ScrimgeourForty CMA supporters ran the London Marathon earlier this month, providing the single biggest source of the charity's income. They included Ian Scrimgeour (left) who said: "It was one of those lifetime moments I'll remember forever. Thanks for the opportunity and fantastic support." To run for the CMA, including the 10-mile Great South Run in Portsmouth on Sunday, October 30th, or the 13-mile Great North Run, at Newcastle on Sunday, September 18th, email Robert Hall.

Stem cellsNew research into cardiomyopathy and its treatments have been hitting the headlines this month. Stories featured on the CMA website include interim results from stem cell trials suggest some success. Manchester information day

Find out more about cardiomyopathy, latest treatments and research at our Manchester information day on Saturday, June 25th, 9.30am to 5pm at the Holiday Inn Manchester Central Park.

The main speaker is Dr Perry Elliott, consultant cardiologist at the Heart Hospital in London. Invites will be going out to members soon. For more details contact Sarah Dennis
New support group for Beds & Bucks
Hands

CMA member Leigh Heath is starting a new support group for Beds and Bucks.  The group is having its first meeting on Monday, June 20th, 7.30pm in Aylesbury.  The main speaker, CMA chief executive Robert Hall, will talk about cardiomyopathy and the charity's services for families. Forthcoming support group meetings:
The Yorkshire Cardiomyopathy Support Group meets on Tuesday, May 3rd, 7.30pm at the St John the Divine Church Hall, Denby Dale Road West, Calder Grove, West Yorks, WF4 3FG. The topic is life insurance and critical illness cover.
The East Anglia Cardiomyopathy Support Group is having a joint meeting with the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital's ICD support group on Wednesday, May 4th, 7pm in the hospital's Benjamin Gooch Lecture Theatre, East Block.
The North London Cardiomyopathy Support Group meets on Saturday, May 7th, 3pm at the Day Hospital, Finchley Memorial Hospital, Granville Road, Finchley, N12 0JE. CMA nurse Gill Rogers is the main speaker.
The  Darlington Cardiomyopathy Support Group has a meeting on Wednesday, May 11th, noon, at the meeting rooms, Hollies Restaurant, Darlington Memorial Hospital's Social Club, Hollyhurst Road.
The Cornwall Cardiomyopathy Support Group has a social get together on Saturday (April 30th) 2pm, at Trickys, Tolgus Mount, Redruth, TR15 3TA. The next main meeting is on Saturday, May 21st, 2pm at the Crossroads Trevel Inn and Conference Centre, Scorrier, Redruth, TR16 5BP. Heart failure consultant Dr Robin Van Lingen is the main speaker.
