Local Dancers Compete World Champion Crowned
Local amateur dancers return from Nashville after competing for the 2007 World Champion Title in their respective divisions. Professional Instructor John Burns of Dance 'til it Burns Dance Studio competed with three local amateurs as they were judged in a similar format to the popular show "Dancing with the Stars".
Tallahassee's Terry Spear and Debo Powers placed 6th and 7th in their respective divisions. Marion Jarnigan of Thomasville took home top honors in her division.
Pro-Am Competition is not a new concept to John and Karen Burns. The couple has danced with more than 25 local amateur dancers in national competitions over the past 10 years. Their students have ranged in age from 10 years to 75 years. Students have included a school principal, a stay at home mom, a retired farmer, an EMT, a State employee, a school teacher, a TCC student, a legal assistant, a healthcare worker, and an FSU Professor.
 The next stop for these local dancers is Atlanta, Georgia in March.

West Coast Swing Workshop and Dance - This Saturday
This weekend Jim Hurst and Arthur Murray are hosting Donnie Carl and Traci Bell's West Coast Swing Workshops. The three classes start at 1:00pm and include Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Levels. We've had great response from people who attended January's FREE Beginner Class and Beginner Only Open Dance - so it is officially a monthly event! We'll be teaching 4-Count Hustle this month so you can join the popular Thursday Hustle Class in March! Come out an practice your basics. We'll play slower music and tell you which dance you can do to each song. At 8:30 we'll open it up to everyone! Music will be by request.

PBS Brings America's Ballroom Challenge
If you haven't caught the first few shows of America's Ballroom Challenge, don't worry. Previously, PBS had re-aired the show and we'll try to keep you up to date as the airings are announced. Season Three of America's Ballroom Challenge is currently airing on Wednesdays until February 27th at 8:00pm on PBS, local WFSF. PBS's Recap of the dance styles and explanation of the contest is very informative and will help explain many questions people typically have about Ballroom and Latin dance. The series also has some great "behind the scenes" segments where you can see what goes into the training, costuming and tanning!
