Happy New Year!  We want to thank everyone again for a fantastic 2007 - we couldn't have done it without you!

Due to the great response we've had with our Thursday Hustle Class, we've decided to continue it for January.  Everyone is welcome - just come by at 7:00pm.

We have some changes to our January Calendar including Gene Brown's open dance schedule.  Please check the calendar on our website for all updated information.

We'd love to hear your comments and ask that you use the "forward" button at the bottom of this email if you know of anyone else who may enjoy this newsletter.  We also welcome your photos or story ideas.

PBS Brings America's Ballroom Challenge

Set your TiVo or DVR for Season Three of America's Ballroom Challenge which is scheduled to air on Wednesdays from January 30th to February 27th at 8:00pm on PBS, local WFSF.  PBS's Recap of the dance styles and explanation of the contest is very informative and will help explain many questions people typically have about Ballroom and Latin dance.  The series also has some great "behind the scenes" segments where you can see what goes into the training, costuming and tanning!

Dancing with the Stars Spin Off - Dance War

Someday maybe they'll be an HGTV for Dance - but for now we'll settle for what we can get!  Dancing with the Stars judges and renowned choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba will put their reputations on the line as they search for America's most talented amateur performers - who can both dance and sing -- in a massive nationwide hunt. They'll create two rival teams and battle it out on the dance floor to form the ultimate performance group, on the six-week series Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, premiering MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2008 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Our Favorite YouTube Videos

This month we've picked a hot Rumba to check out.  You don't need legs that long to do rumba, but it sure does help.

The second video is a Jack & Jill West Coast Swing.  Jack & Jill Competition is where a lead and follow are randomly paired together and they compete against other randomly paired couples.  They don't get to hear their music prior to the dance either!  Amazing!

Holiday Party Packed the House
Winner of Contest Announced

There was a fantastic turnout for the Holiday Party.  We started the evening with an hour of beginner open dance which included slower music and the announcement of each dance style along with a reminder of the basic for each dance.  Later, we opened the studio to everyone and had some great exhibitions by four local ladies who were preparing for the UCWDC World Championship (held January 1-6).  Finally, we announced Will Deland as our Bad Dance Excuse Contest Winner.  Will provided us with many hilarious excuses.  We have listed most of the excuses we received on our website under "Contest".  If you submitted one that was not listed - you know why!

Dance Exhibitions Needed

We're looking for dancers who want to strut their stuff!  We are planning a Community Dance Show as a fundraiser for a local school and we need your dance numbers!  If you are interested in participating, please let us know soon!  You do not need to be a student of DTIB, we just ask that performers are not full time professional instructors.  If you have any questions, please let us know.  The show is scheduled for late-February with more details coming.
