The Month of Our Mother

May is traditionally a time to fathom more deeply the mystery of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer, in each of our lives. We honor Mary because she gives birth to and brings the Word, Jesus to the world. She shows us in a dramatic way what we are all called to do. The power of the most High overshadows and the Spirit comes upon each one of us, sending us out into the world to bring the hope of Christ, to bring the Word to life."

Chris O'Connor talk with Fr. Rocco Puopolo and Fr. Joseph Matteucig about their service in the Xaverian Missionaries in both Sierra Leone and Taiwan, as well as the initiatives they are undertaking in this country to connect American youth with their counterparts elsewhere. Hear it here.

Fr John Convery was among a small Scottish delegation in the 2500 audience at the Mayoral Accountability Assembly organised by London Citizens, an alliance of over 230 faith education and civic groups in the capital.

Candidates in the Mayoral Election Campaign listened as moving testimonies were made by citizens seeking safer streets for young people, better quality housing, a response to growing unemployment and more employers to sign up to the Living Wage Campaign.

We will keep you informed about plans to develop a citizens' alliance in Scotland.

NY Day of Interfaith Youth Service A Success!

interfaith youth workingStudents from campuses across New York got their hands dirty cleaning up a community garden with the non-profit organization Harlem Grown, joined by enthusiastic volunteers from the Muslim Consultative Network and Progressive Muslim Meetup.  With saws, shovels, and wheelbarrows, the group worked hard to move over a ton of gravel, clear 100 cubit feet of branches, and plant 58 bulbs in under four hours!  The garden will be used by the schoolchildren of P.S. 175 to learn about gardening, nutrition, and the environment.
