From the Heart...

We are one familyWe are one family! Jesus, in the gospel of John, in a rare intimate prayer to his Father in heaven, wished that all of humanity would be ONE, as He and the Father are one. Jesus shares his most ardent dream for us all, indeed the whole world.  We have a new short video on YouTube that tries to get at that dream in a simple way. Help spread the word and share it through your twitter and FB page.

Pope's Missionary Intention for February

"That the Lord may sustain the efforts of health workers assisting the sick and the elderly in the world's poorest regions"

Fr. Italo Lovat...Probably even more painful than physical pain is the moral pain of abandonment that many of our brothers and sisters live. Who has not felt one's heart touched in seeing some reportages on missionary work, the women religious gathering human beings lying in the street and devoured by misery? Are not they, and many others like them, a living testimony of Christ, the Good Samaritan? Read more.

Fr. Italo Lovat, one of our Xaverian missionaries has worked in Cameroon for many years helping the disabled community. Read about his ministry here.

Scottish Interfaith CouncilRecently, Charandeep Singh, a member of the youth committee of the Scottish Interfaith Council was invited to lead the 'Time for Reflection,' where a member of the public opens the proceedings for the day in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament. Here is an extract of his address to the Members of the Scottish Parliament:

"I believe that each individual has the potential to create a better society; a better Scotland. Sikhism teaches that we, as human beings, should lead by example to inspire everyone around us: family, friends and others...

I recently attended a conference in Oban High School, titled 'Faith & Young People'... being able to share my experiences as a young person of faith helped those pupils to recognise that we share common values as young people in Scotland, even though we may appear different before we get to know each other...

I believe that young people are the key to Scotland's prosperous future. Interfaith dialogue between educational establishments and faith and community leaders is paramount to creating a stronger, prouder nation."

Charandeep is one of a number of young people actively involved in the Scottish Interfaith Council. You can find out more about them here.

Jesus>Religion

Jesus>ReligionThe YouTube video "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus" has stirred up quite the conversation on Facebook. Many young people resonate with the message of the video, featuring Jefferson Bethke of Mars Hill Church. His poem amplifies a common trend among today's youth, a trend that distrusts hierarchical institutions and  says, "We're spiritual but not religious." Many videos have been posted in response including one by Fr. Claude Burns, aka Fr. Pontifex, who sets out to prove that Jesus and the church can't be separated.
